I have been doing field work for the past two years

? I have been doing in-depth design for the past two years

I have encountered some annoying things in my work and life recently, and suddenly I have the idea to write down my experience of doing on-site design. Ideas, I hope it can provide some reference and reference for colleagues who are doing or want to do in-depth internships!

I used to be a designer, and I believe that all designers should understand what it feels like to be a tired dog. I have been engaged in pure design for nearly three years, planning, drawing, changing drawings, changing drawings and changing drawings... When I was tired and no longer making progress, I thought of walking around the construction site to see how the drawings I often produced looked like on site. Bit by bit being transformed into physical objects can be regarded as a cognitive process of learning!

It just so happened that I had the opportunity. I received an interview notice from a pretty good company in Xiamen, so I went for the interview. After that, I resigned decisively and started to deepen my career in the field. Let’s talk about the first construction site. The construction site is a Jianfa project, a finely decorated house worth about 30 million yuan. Previously, the company sent a resident designer, but unfortunately he did not meet Jianfa's requirements and was sent back by Jianfa. Only then did he join. To be honest, the pressure was quite high when I first got involved, because Party A was mainly responsible for their design at the time (later they participated in multiple construction and development projects, and their designs played a very important role in the entire construction site), which caused Party A to play a very important role in the entire construction site. Fang has relatively high requirements for design. And this is also the person we interact with the most during the whole process of deepening the design.

Let’s talk about the construction site next! I remember that I started making wiring samples as soon as I entered the construction site. Jianfa's wiring requirements at that time were relatively strict, not only the usual three wires, but also socket positioning, ceiling finishing surface, furniture positioning, etc. At that time, the construction period was relatively tight, and I entered the site late, so I was very exhausted and kept working overtime, even all night. What is more disappointing is that even if you are working hard and rushing to the drawings, the project manager will still say "the whole team has been dragged to death by you" and make you feel heartbroken. During this period, I also thought many times whether my decision to visit the construction site was correct, and whether I should resign and quit working. It would not be a good idea to go back and do my own pure design. But in the end, I persisted and did not give up my plan at the time. I finally finished the drawings after working overtime for more than 20 days, and I was exhausted. Of course, if you think you can rest at this time, you are too naive. Basically, we don’t have any rest. Then came a series of adjustments and changes, and then came the first third-party evaluation of C&D.

C&D’s third-party evaluation is nationwide. The rule is to ask a third-party rating agency to rate the projects under construction nationwide by C&D, and then select the top three and give them a certain bonus and a reward for their achievements to be included in C&D's files. The first evaluation at our construction site mainly focused on the layout model and safety and civilization (the safety and civilization advertisement is also responsible for the in-depth design). I have to say that if you don’t work overtime for 2.3 nights during each evaluation, you will not be called working on the construction site. Staying up late is common. Our construction site did well and won first place, which is a reward for everyone's hard work. Of course, there are no material rewards. They just give everyone a half day to rest and sleep in. However, this time I was recognized by the project department and Party A, and began to integrate into the project department.

When I won the second place again in the second competition, basically all the drawings and plans were determined by me and Party A directly through direct communication. The project manager basically didn’t care about the problems and technical issues. Just communicate with the person in charge. Regarding keel layout, tile layout, various change plans, as well as in-depth issues such as cabinets and bathroom cabinets, all are communicated by myself and Party A (think about it, it is quite good to have a leader who does not take care of things, so you can communicate by yourself) Processing growth is relatively fast). Handle the relationship with Party A's design well, don't talk back, handle things well, and Party A's design will basically not embarrass you. After I have been approved by Party A's design, Party A's design will bring me with them when inspecting furniture factories such as Gold Medal Cabinets and Bathroom Cabinets, which is a good benefit.

I remember one thing here, that is, I went to the Jianfa Yonglongfu Project in Hefei to help determine the plan and make changes. The project manager at that time did not handle the design relationship with Jianfa well, resulting in very slow progress of the project. I remember that one thing happened. Party A's design asked me to go there with the project manager with the detailed plan of the bathroom cabinet at that time, but the project manager obviously didn't give him the face and asked me to communicate directly by myself. This behavior completely offended Party A, who threw the plan on the ground without even looking at it.

He was angry, but I still had things to do, so I could only pick it up silently, say some nice words, and stand silently while he ignored me for almost an hour before we looked at the plan together again. Therefore, it is most important to have a good relationship with the owner no matter where you are working at the construction site.

Returning to the project of Jianfa Shangjun, I won first and second again in the two subsequent evaluations. However, by that time I had already finished most of the in-depth design work and started to change my job to a construction worker. role, running around the floors every day, arguing with the team in various ways......

When the first project was basically completed, I and another technical leader were deployed to Hefei Being in charge of a shopping mall basically means setting up a project department and communicating with Party A about the drawings and the in-depth determination of various plans (the drawings are too rough, and most of them need to be re-planned). The project department was formed, and after the plan was basically finalized, it was sent to Hefei to help, which is the Yonglong Mansion in Hefei mentioned above. Later, because I didn’t want to run around, I resigned from the company and left...

In summary:

1: Friends who want to come to the site to do on-site design can do so In 1.2 years, you will encounter many problems on-site that were not considered in the design drawings, and you will need to deepen the drawings on-site to come up with a plan. This is a kind of growth.

2: Being on-site can help you understand the craftsmanship better. After all, it is always easier to understand when the real thing is in front of you than by imagining it.

3: Being on-site allows you to have more control over the standardization of the process.

4: Of course, the on-site design requires moving around, which is considered to be the kind of homeless. Those with families will be more miserable.

Opinions on the future of on-site design:

At present, in-depth on-site design is not very much in demand, and few designers are willing to do this. But I feel that the requirements of each project are becoming more and more standardized, and in-depth design will become a standard feature of a project department.

The writing is not good, I just wrote down some of my feelings about deepening my experience. After seeing your own experience, as a designer, would you want to come to the site for in-depth experience?
