Break the monopoly of Japanese cars? Head independent brands formed a power alliance, and China Auto finally made efforts.

A very interesting phenomenon has been discovered recently. When independent brands promote their new products, they no longer compare China models at the same level when choosing competing products, but all choose joint venture brands with higher prices. This situation naturally reflects the confidence of independent manufacturers in their products, but what I will talk about next may be the most real reason.

In the last month of 2020, four major automobile groups, namely SAIC, FAW, Dongfeng, Changan Automobile and Geely, Great Wall and BYD in private cars, formed the "China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association-Passenger Vehicle Powertrain Professional Committee" (hereinafter referred to as the Ride Club). This new alliance not only has a long name, but also has many members, including Xi Jiaotong University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Beijing Institute of Technology and Jilin University.

Worthy of the word "China", it has basically absorbed all domestic units related to automobile engine research and development, which is unprecedented in China automobile industry.

There is a precedent for the alliance of major independent brands. In 20 18, eight independent brands, including Chang' an, Geely and Great Wall, formed the "China Auto Industry Self-discipline Alliance" to fight against the organized black chain of interest division-black public relations and black media. If the alliance at that time was just a splash at the marketing level, then the formation of this power alliance is true.

In fact, the news of the establishment of the power alliance came out at the end of last year, just because this year's special situation has not been launched. As for why many media have not been invited to report this issue, it is actually quite true. They are all power design institutes under various automobile groups, and there is no publicity fund, so this month we ignored this matter.

Okay, let's get down to business. Let's talk about how important this sudden "riding guild" will be. In 2008, someone proposed to overtake the domestic automobile industry in corners, and boy, all kinds of strange automobile brands came out at once. However, after ten years of rapid development, after 20 19, there was a big wave in the domestic automobile market. Brands without R&D capability were swept out of the house, and the rest were elites. What the Japanese auto market took 30 years to complete, it took us 10 years to complete.

Why mention the Japanese auto market? In fact, not only Japan, but also the United States, Britain and the European Union have formed relevant power alliances. Former US Presidents Clinton, George W. Bush and Obama have all guided major automobile companies to overcome the technical difficulties of automobile power, so that domestic enterprises in competitive relations can overcome the technical difficulties together.

When it comes to overcoming technical difficulties, there is no stronger nation than ours. It can be said that the Blue Whale series engine independently developed by Changan Automobile, the 9DCT gearbox developed by Great Wall Motor, BYD's super hybrid and blade battery have been talked for a long time.

But the problem is that the development of our domestic automobile industry is indeed a bit late. In order to realize power autonomy as soon as possible, China brand suffered a lot of hidden losses and wasted a lot of time and power. The most typical example is that GAC Chuanqi GS sold 20,000 yuan in August. As a result, Aisin, a subsidiary of Toyota, came to the bottom of the barrel, and then Toyota stood up and said that it had nothing to do with me, but Aisin, a stupid son who failed to live up to expectations, had insufficient production capacity. Who believes it?

In the past two years, there has been a magical situation. The number of self-owned brand vehicles using Aisin AT gearbox has decreased a lot, either changing CVT or DCT, and some even directly buying ZF 8AT with higher price, such as11.1800,000 Great Wall Gun (automatic transmission). In the past, Mitsubishi generously used its engine for us, but it was killed. Toyota doesn't want to make the same mistake.

With the liberalization of the share ratio of automobile joint ventures (50: 50 in the past), overseas automobile brands have more and more voice in joint ventures, and those enterprises that rely on joint venture subsidiaries to support their own brands have also realized the danger and started to seek more reliable partners, such as Brilliance Auto.

In this context, China automobile enterprises formed this "The Avengers". In addition to applying domestic gearboxes to more models, the cycling club will also vigorously increase the research and development of new power. Last month, the relevant departments issued a new version of the New Energy Automobile Industry Plan, which planned the development of hybrid and pure electric vehicles in the next fifteen years. This month, cycling games came into being.

In the long run, pure electric is of course the mainstream of the future. BYD, Chang 'an, Great Wall, FAW and other large enterprises are now capable of producing "high-quality goods" and can go further. This is the property we have saved. However, in the medium term, under the dual pressure of market and policy, hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) is the mainstream, and the Japanese car alliance laid out here ten years ago has natural advantages. Is it necessary to let Japanese cars overwhelm us 15 years?

A few days ago, Honeycomb Yichuang, a subsidiary of Great Wall Motor, released lemon hybrid DHT, and BYD also brought super hybrid at Guangzhou Auto Show. Qin PLUS, these technologies are very strong, but compared with Toyota and Honda, the hybrid is still less. However, in the future, we can expect to concentrate the resources and strength of major domestic automobile companies, parts suppliers and universities, and the monopoly position of Japanese cars in the hybrid field will definitely be broken.

Back to the topic at the beginning, the competing products of China models have been upgraded to other camps. Then we can infer that this alliance will not only stay in powertrain research and development, but also form a complete organic whole in marketing, research and development, spare parts supply and so on.

Forming a whole doesn't mean sharing everything equally, because if you really want to share equally, simply exchange shares. But it is foreseeable that there may be many enterprises in the same camp waiting for others to work hard, and most of China cars will be finished. Therefore, the offensive and defensive alliance is only external, and so is the internal competition. Just as BBA is to European cars and Honda Toyota is to Japan, there are always people from the same camp taking the lead.

Domestic car companies must cooperate if they want to go global. This is the case with the self-discipline alliance established three years ago, and so is the newly established riding game. However, this year's cross-border cooperation has become a new trend. Technology companies such as Huawei, Tencent and Ali have also entered the circle of friends of automobile brands such as Changan and BYD. Actually, this is right. Tigers are always hard to beat wolves.
