Miyazaki Hayao Totoro is a naive animation. Why is it popular with adults?

Some time ago, My Neighbor Totoro's cover version was introduced to China. I also went to the cinema to have a look, hoping to relive this childhood classic. Indeed, as the subject said, as an adult, I think this film is very real and naive, but it is this childlike innocence that makes adults like it very much. My neighbor totoro in Miyazaki Hayao has always kept the feeling of childhood for us, satisfying our childhood fantasy of having elves around us. Although we are no longer young, my neighbor totoro helps us remember our childhood and teaches us how to learn to love and how to live.

The story mainly tells that in order to facilitate his wife's treatment, his father decided to move his two daughters to the countryside near his wife's nursing home, and his father and daughter moved into an old house that had been in disrepair for a long time. Little sisters soon discovered that there are many magical things in the seemingly ordinary countryside, such as "coal ash" that can gather, disperse and fly in uninhabited houses, the elves in the forest, the owner of the forest, my neighbor totoro, and a cat bus that always smiles.
