The pitch of timpani can be adjusted by pedaling, and the technique of pedaling to make a sliding sound is not as simple as it seems. It takes a lot of skill and practice to know when to start and stop, how long the reverberation should be, how loud the knock is, and how many times to knock. Grasping intonation is also a necessary condition for drummers. It is also common for timpani players to lie on the drum and listen to the music being played. In addition to the above skills, the most important requirement for timpani players is "accuracy". After all, dozens of people in the string orchestra play together, even if one person plays wrong, it may not be a big problem; But there are only one or two drummers. If you make a mistake, it's ruined. The word "quasi" may require you to recite the music, stand behind everyone and silently count the chapters, and make the most accurate sound at the most accurate time without any mistakes. This is not only a technical problem, but also a psychological test. In the symphony orchestra, there are only a few percussion bands, so usually each band can play all kinds of percussion instruments. Besides the drums I mentioned above, there are xylophone, triangle, tambourine, cymbal and so on. Therefore, if you can only play one kind of drum, it is usually not enough. Finally, percussionists need good physical strength. For example, the bell pipe needs to climb up and down the ladder, and it will be all over if you accidentally fall down.
