Simply put, what we usually call pixels is the number of photoelectric sensors on CCD/CMOS. The photosensitive element forms a point on the output photo after photosensitive, photoelectric signal conversion, A/D conversion and other steps. If you enlarge the image several times, you will find that these continuous tones are actually composed of many small squares with similar colors, and these small squares are the smallest unit "pixels" that constitute the image.

Pixels are divided into CCD pixels and effective pixels. Most digital cameras on the market now label CCD pixels instead of effective pixels.

2. What is resolution?

When it comes to pixels, you have to talk about resolution. Because the two are inseparable!

The so-called "resolution" refers to the number of pixels represented or captured in a unit length. Like pixels, there are many kinds of resolutions.

One of the most common is image resolution. We usually say that the maximum resolution of digital camera output photos refers to the image resolution, and the unit is ppi (pixels per inch).

Printing resolution is also a very common one, as the name implies, it is the output resolution of a printer or developing device, and the unit is dpi (dots per inch).

The display resolution is the size of the Windows desktop. Common settings are 640x480, 800x600,1024x768, etc. Screen font resolution: the font resolution of PC is 96dpi, and that of Mac is 72dpi.

3. Relationship between image resolution and pixels

Having finished the definition of pixel and resolution, let's look at the relationship between them. Careful friends may have found that pixels are directly proportional to resolution, and the larger the pixels, the higher the resolution. Give an example!

As mentioned earlier, pixels are divided into effective pixels and CCD pixels.

Generally speaking, for a 2-megapixel digital camera, the maximum image resolution is1600×1200 =1920,000 pixels, that is, the actual effective pixel is1920,000 pixels.

Generally speaking, the maximum image resolution of a 3-megapixel digital camera is 2048×1536 = 3145728 pixels, which means that the effective pixel is 3 140000.

Other pixel-level digital cameras have the same resolution and effective pixel conversion.
