Hancheng city belongs to Weinan City, Shaanxi Province, and hancheng city is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Shaanxi Province, with Weinan City as its trusteeship. Hancheng, known as Longmen, xia yang and Shaoliang in ancient times, is a county-level city managed by Weinan City, Shaanxi Province, located on the west bank of the Yellow River in eastern Shaanxi and in the northeast corner of Guanzhong Basin.
Hancheng has a long history and was called "Longmen" in Xia and Shang Dynasties. The Western Zhou Dynasty was called Korea (Hou) and later Liang (Bo). Hancheng is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilization and the hometown of Sima Qian, the Taishi Duke of Shi Sheng. In the early years of the Western Zhou Dynasty, the son was named Korea, and at the turn of the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Kang, the son of Qin Zhong, was named Liang Guo. During the Warring States Period, Xiayang County was established in Qin Dynasty. In the eighteenth year of Emperor Kai of Sui Dynasty (598), Hancheng County was established.
1984 1 month was changed to hancheng city, and 1985 1 month was listed as an open city in Shaanxi province. In 2006, it became the only city in Shaanxi that won the title of "China Excellent Tourism City" as a county-level city.

Hancheng is located in the compound part of the east wing of the front arc of Qilu River mountain structure and the third subsidence zone of Neocathaysia. With the northeast-southwest piedmont fault (Hancheng fault) as the boundary, it belongs to the Wei Fen Graben in the southeast and the fold area on the edge of the northern Shaanxi basin in the Ordos platform syncline in the northwest.
