Basic characteristics of population status in China.

The basic characteristics of China's current population situation are large population base, large new population and low population quality, which are caused by large absolute number, rapid population growth, light age structure, aging development and uneven population distribution. In 2023, China's population has been negative for two consecutive years, and the total fertility rate is about 1.0, ranking second from the bottom among the major economies in the world. Efforts should be made to liberalize and encourage fertility. The total fertility rate in China dropped from about 6 before 1.70 to about 2 after 1.90, and then to 1.5 after 20 10.
