What is the "hospice care" that some nurses will do for their patients?

I have been engaged in nursing 12 years. Many people say that nursing is the most tiring profession. Every day, I have to wait on the patient like a maid, and even have to pee. But today I want to talk about another thing that nurses have to do-hospice care! Yes, that's what you think, after the patient dies! Of course, not all nurses need to do this kind of thing, only a few nurses will come into contact with it, and I am one of those few.

I remember my first hospice care. It was an old lady who died of liver cancer. At that time, I was completely ignorant. I'm scared, but I have to do it because it's my job. When the head nurse taught me how to do hospice care step by step, my hands were shaking and my body was weak, but I still listened to the head nurse and did it step by step according to the requirements of the head nurse.

Put on isolation gown and gloves according to the procedure, and fill in the patient information sheet, and record the patient's name, gender, age, hospitalization number, disease name, time of death and items carried by the patient.

Let's first throw away everything used in the rescue process, shake the bed flat, let the patient lie on his back and put the pillow down. Then wash the patient's face, comb his hair, clean his mouth and close his eyes and mouth. Unplug all tubes, and if there is a wound, sew it up. Then take off your clothes and pants, scrub your body, put on clean clothes and pants, and put on socks and shoes. Stick a patient information sheet on your chest.

Straighten the body position, wrap the patient with cloth, fix the chest, waist and legs with bandages, and post a second patient information sheet.

Finally, put the patient on the flat car, cover it with sheets, inform the mortuary staff to transfer the patient, and hand over the third patient information sheet.

In this way, do as the head nurse says step by step. After the best step, I really feel soft all over. Fortunately, my colleagues and the head nurse accompanied me to do it, otherwise I would really collapse!

After this hospice care, I had nightmares for over half a month. Every time in the dead of night, my mind always repeats the steps I took that day. It's so clear, I'm a little nervous.

That's a car accident patient. He was covered in blood when he arrived. Rescued for more than 4 hours, but finally didn't come back, dead! Because the patient has many wounds, we still have to mend them. Every stitch makes me tremble, because this patient is really "miserable"! After cleaning the patient, I found that this patient is a very young and handsome young man! Suddenly there is an unspeakable feeling. He is still so young that there are infinite possibilities in the future. But, alas, working in a hospital is like this, facing life and death every day.

Perhaps this young patient gave me a great shock, and gradually I found that I was no longer so afraid and resisted nursing them! Somehow, I still feel a little sense of mission. They will leave this world "cleanly" because of what I did! It seems like a very meaningful thing to think about it!

Everyone says, nurse, it's angels in white. I think, when we are doing hospice care, it must be the angel who is giving the final baptism to this group of people who are about to fly away!
