About light tone
Light tone is not the fifth tone besides the four tones in Putonghua, but the four tones become lighter and shorter than before under certain conditions. It can be regarded as a special tone sandhi.
Light tone is an important phonetic feature of Mandarin. If you don't speak it well, Mandarin will not be authentic.
Generally, there is no light tone in southern dialects, so light tone is a difficult point for people in southern dialects to learn Mandarin. The difficulty lies in pronunciation and recognition. Therefore, to learn light tone well, one is to master the reading method of light tone, and the other is to know which words to read light tone.
The characteristics and pronunciation of light tone have changed in pitch, sound length, timbre and sound intensity. However, the main phonetic features of light tone are embodied in two aspects: < P > First, the sound length of light tone syllables is generally shorter than that of normal stressed syllables.
Second, the tone value (pitch form) of light tone syllables has changed, which is different from the original tone and forms a unique light tone value.
According to the phonetic characteristics of light tone, when practicing light tone words, you can lengthen the stressed syllables in front moderately, shorten the light tone syllables in the back as much as possible, and read out the beat similar to that of dotted notes. If you just shorten the syllable length, it still sounds strange, not the standard light tone. While shortening the tone length, we must also change the original tone value and read the soft tone value.
The tone value of the tone syllable in Putonghua is determined by the tone of its previous syllable, and there are two forms of * * *:
1. The tone after the tone-level tone, tone-level tone and tone-off tone is a short low-pitched tone. Adjust the value to 31
such as:
level tone+light tone
Mr. xiānshenɡ clothes Y and yīfu things D not n ɡ Xi delayed dānwu
rising tone+light tone
student xuéshenɡ Renji ɑ understands that mínɡbɑi is cheap.
such as:
wife, l, m, m, m, im, i, eyes, y, m, n, like x, ǐ, hu, n
Light words are commonly used in spoken language. There are generally no light words in written words, neologisms and scientific terms.
in the dictionary, most light syllables are not marked with key signature, such as "window chuānɡhu, friend pénɡyou". This kind of words are called must-read light words, which means that you must read softly.
there is another category, which is marked with key signature, but the syllable is marked with a dot, such as "Father F ù q ī n, birthday Shē n ɡ ri, daytime Bá i ti ā n". Generally speaking, this kind of words should be read lightly, but only occasionally (or occasionally) stressed. We call them "words that can be read lightly". However, if these words are stressed, they will have a blunt and unnatural sense of language and affect the phonetic features of Putonghua, so they should be read lightly most of the time.
There are many light words in Putonghua, so it is impossible to look them up in the dictionary one by one. In order to facilitate people in dialect areas to learn and master them, we classify the light words and light words into two categories: "regular" and "established":
The first category is regular. Most of the light tone (or light reading) in Putonghua is closely related to grammatical elements and has strong regularity, so you can easily master it as long as you remember the regularity.
