How can we understand our true nature?

Recommend you to watch Master Hui Law’s lectures

You can’t see your nature like this, because the illusion is empty, and the truth is there

“I "I want to be enlightened" "I want to find my true heart" This is not right, why? Because the truth cannot be found, let go of the illusion, the truth will appear naturally, there is no need to look for it.

Otherwise, it is just a matter of putting a head on your head and riding a bull in search of a bull.

Gude has a saying: If you search deeply and find nothing, you will immediately see the true nature when you put it down.

The Surangama Sutra says: If the mad mind rests, resting will lead to enlightenment.

Just like the sun is always in the sky, but the dark clouds cover it, the sunshine does not appear. All you have to do is to clear the dark clouds, and when the dark clouds clear away, the sunshine appears! There is no need to look for the sun again. Let go of the delusion and the truth will appear. There is no need to look for the truth.

Therefore, Zen Master Xuanjue said: A Taoist who has learned nothing but is idle does not get rid of delusions and does not seek truth

Why not get rid of delusions? Because Dafan is empty, why don't you seek truth? Because the truth is there.

This is what the Surangama Sutra says: If the mad mind rests, resting means enlightenment.

However, this is the state of mind after enlightenment. Beginners still need to get rid of delusions. Why? Master Yuanying said: Although delusions are empty, the true nature cannot be revealed if it is inconvenient to break them

Remember, if you want to realize the Tao, first learn from Master Shenxiu, slowly let go of it bit by bit, then let it go, let it go completely, slowly Slowly grind away your habits, wait until all the causes and conditions are met, and you will naturally realize the Tao.

In ancient times, there was a Zen master who had worked hard for more than ten years in practice, but never realized the Tao. One day he went to drink water, and his cup accidentally broke, and he suddenly realized it! There is no need to rush to enlightenment. First, get rid of your habits, and then listen to the scriptures and Dharma more. When everything is mature, you will naturally realize the truth. So I always want in my heart, I want to have enlightenment now, I want to be enlightened, I want to see my nature, but I don’t do it in my heart. If the troubles in front of you are not eliminated, and the current habits continue, it is just talk on paper, because after all, we are not the Sixth Patriarch, and the Sixth Patriarch once heard a thousand enlightenments, which is also the result of countless kalpas of gradual teaching and practice, so let’s use Master Shenxiu’s words first, wait until everything matures At this time, I can naturally understand the mood of the Sixth Patriarch when he said that there is nothing in the first place.

I believe that Master Huifa’s Buddhist lectures, especially the Sixth Patriarch’s Tan Sutra and other Zen lectures, will explain it very clearly to you. Most of us always do nothing, but we want to enlighten ourselves and want to be enlightened every day. Enlightenment, everyone wants to see the nature, but they have no choice but don’t know where to start, how to start, how to realize the Tao, how to realize the Tao, so they are in a dilemma and at a loss. Therefore, you must first listen to the scriptures and listen to the Dharma, and then start seriously in your heart. In short, it doesn’t take too long to understand the Tao. If you think about it too much, you will naturally succeed if you work hard. If you think "I want to enlighten" every day, it is actually the duality of what can be accomplished, because there is one who can cut off, one who can cut off, one who can understand, and one who understands, and it is still the duality of what can be. Regarding legislation, it is not an absolute pure mind of one's own nature.

The following lectures on "The Sixth Patriarch's Altar Sutra" and "Monk Dazhu's Sudden Enlightenment and the Key to the Tao" are very good, and I hope you can make good use of them.

Therefore, it is not easy to understand one's mind and nature. If you think that I want to enlighten myself overnight, unless you are as powerful as the Sixth Patriarch, you should take a look at the ancient patriarchs. The most important thing to do is to listen to the scriptures and listen to the Dharma a lot, otherwise you will not even know that you are going in the wrong direction. Furthermore, you must read the "Sixth Patriarch's Altar Sutra", but you cannot just take a look. What I mean is reading. True understanding does not mean interpreting according to your own meaning, nor does it mean you have seen it just by scanning it with your eyes. Whether you have seen it or not understood it is still zero, so you need to be taught by a great and virtuous teacher.

Master Huifa is the 48th generation founder of the Soto Sect and the 42nd generation founder of the Rinzai Sect. He is from both schools of Zen. His Zen lectures are praised as being to the point
