What is snakehead?

Snakehead is a common name for snakehead, also known as thunder fish, snakehead, snake fish and raw fish. Among them, the narrow sense of snakehead mainly refers to snakehead, which is the kind that we usually catch the most and is also the most widely distributed, while the broad sense of snakehead generally refers to snakehead, and there are mainly three kinds of snakehead, spotted snakehead and moon snakehead in China.

Snakehead is a kind of freshwater benthic fish, which usually inhabits the waters with overgrown grass or muddy bottom, and is distributed in rivers, lakes, reservoirs, ponds, paddy fields and other waters. Snakehead has strong adaptability to water quality, water temperature and dissolved oxygen. They can not only survive in the water temperature of 0~35℃, but also, unlike most fish, the gill of snakehead has small sacs (suprabranchial organs), which are similar to lungs. Snakehead can swim directly to the surface to breathe air, and when underwater, it can draw oxygen from the air in the baby bag. This kind of airbag enables snakehead to survive in water with low oxygen content, and its body surface is covered with a layer of mucus. As long as it is kept moist, snakehead with its own "oxygen bottle" can even survive in the air for up to 4 days without water.

So snakehead is very common, and sometimes there are snakehead in an inconspicuous small pond.

Snakehead is fierce, big eater and greedy. Larvae feed on plankton such as rotifers, copepods, cladocera and small insects such as chironomid larvae; Young fish mainly feed on young fish, small fish and shrimps in aquatic insects. Adult fish prey on exotic small fish, shrimps, frogs, and even small waterfowl-snakehead fish swim fast and eat a lot, often swallowing live bait about half a body length. When the food is insufficient or the individual size varies greatly, snakehead also has the habit of self-harm.

Among the three common snakeheads in China, the moon snakehead is easy to distinguish, with small size and bright beads. Snakehead and spotted snakehead are similar, but there are also differences: snakehead is long and spotted snakehead is short; The color of snakehead is dark and the color of spotted snakehead is light, and the markings on their heads are also obviously different: snakehead has seven-star markings on its head, and the markings on its head are similar to "188"; In addition, the head of snakehead is longer and sharper, more like a snake.

First, look for places where there are many duckweed plants. If it is in open water, see if there are any snakeheads basking in the sun or catching their breath. In open water, you can fish directly with soft bait without thunderfrogs. If you see snakehead with its young, try not to go fishing. If we catch the big ones, the small ones will get cold, so it is not as good as sustainable development. Then observe whether there is water frying or predation in the grass area, and if there is, throw the pole directly. If you have a chance, you'd better ask the local people if there are any fish that are definitely more cooked than you. It's easy to pass around. If you don't know anything, you can only search in duckweed or grass master grid.
