Do you know anything about the three-way catalytic converter in cars?

Today I'm going to tell you about the three-way catalytic converter in the car. Perhaps many car owners know that their cars are equipped with a three-way catalytic device, but they don't know its structure, maintenance and use.

Therefore, it may lead to the early damage of the catalytic converter and cause unnecessary losses to the owner. So in today's program, we will talk about the three-way catalytic converter in the car.

Mono-or ternary catalytic converter

It is actually a tail gas purification device installed on the automobile exhaust system for environmental protection purposes. Its shell is metal structure, its interior is honeycomb, and its carrier is coated with heavy metal catalyst.

For example, platinum, palladium, technetium and other heavy metals, because they contain heavy metals, the price of three-way catalyst is usually not cheap.

Second, the working principle

When the engine is working, the high-temperature gas generated by it passes through catalysts such as three-way catalyst and reaches 400 degrees Celsius.

Precious metals in the device will play a catalytic role, which will make carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides undergo oxidation reaction and transform them into harmless gases such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water. Therefore, it can reduce the emission of harmful gases into the atmosphere and realize the function of environmental protection.

Third, the fault and its causes

The first is the poisoning failure of the three-way catalyst. In order to give full play to the conversion efficiency of the three-way catalyst and prevent early damage, cars must not use leaded gasoline.

Because after the leaded gasoline is burned, its fiber particles will cover the surface of the catalyst with the exhaust gas through the three-way catalyst, which greatly reduces the active area of the catalyst. Thus, the conversion efficiency of the catalytic converter is greatly reduced, which is what we often call lead poisoning of the three-way catalytic converter.

The second common fault is that the three-way catalyst is blocked. The blockage of three-way catalytic converter mainly comes from two aspects.

The first is gasoline. As we all know, gasoline may be mixed with rust when put into containers during transportation. The second is that our exhaust pipe is corroded and rusted, and the rust inside may also lead to the blockage of our three-way catalyst.

If the congestion is not particularly serious, it may cause poor exhaust, decreased power, increased fuel consumption, temperature rise and other adverse conditions.
