Test Driving Official丨Boyue L was tested on the track. Is the “best urban SUV” worthy of its name?

"The best city SUV to drive".

This is a sentence printed on the front page of the Boyue L model manual that Geely officially gave to media colleagues. We do not know whether this sentence violates the "Advertising Law", but In fact, this kind of rhetoric often appears in the promotion of new car-making forces, and it is estimated that consumers are already accustomed to it.

However, objectively speaking, those new car companies that do not have the background to build cars can boldly say advertising slogans such as "XX million is the best". What is Geely's position as an independent manufacturer? No?

Okay, back to the topic, the author was invited to participate in the Boyue L test drive event held by Geely in Pingtan, Fujian Province yesterday. A brand-new model built on CMA super architecture and equipped with Raytheon Zhiqing Hi·F hybrid/Drive-E dual power system. Previously, the author had only experienced the new car statically at the Chengdu Auto Show. So how does the Boyue L really drive? Does it live up to its reputation as an easy-to-drive urban SUV?

This time, all Boyue L series models provide three powertrains, namely 1.5T 7DCT, 2.0T 7DCT and Raytheon Zhiqing Hi·F petrol-electric hybrid (1.5T 3-speed DHT). The guide price range is 129,800 yuan to 175,800 yuan. The version I tested this time is the hybrid version of the top model with a guide price of 175,800 yuan.

Let’s talk about the conclusion first. From the author’s personal point of view, Geely’s official positioning of the Boyue L as “the best urban SUV” would add the qualifier “price of 150,000 yuan” , there is no problem at all.

Specifically, the location of this test drive is the Pingtan International Circuit in Fujian. Unlike other closed circuits in China, the total length of the Pingtan Circuit exceeds 4km and contains many Chinese racing tracks. With fast straights and long high-speed curves, and the entire track surrounding a residential business district, it is known as the "Urban International Circuit". Therefore, Geely officially chose this place to better reflect the Boyue L's urban road performance. Performance.

Driving the vehicle starting from the starting area, the first item that the author experienced was the 0-100km/h acceleration. Since we were driving a hybrid model, the actual test item we tested was 0-50km. /h accelerates (the reason will be explained below). Starting from the floor oil, the vehicle's power response is very direct, and thanks to the vehicle's comprehensive maximum power of 180kW and peak torque of 545N·m, the push-back feeling during acceleration is still relatively obvious, and it only takes just 0-50km/h to complete the acceleration. It takes 3.4 seconds. This scene simulates starting and overtaking in urban working conditions, so it is relatively easy for Boyue L to be a "traffic light starting king".

It is worth mentioning that if we choose "ejection start": depress the brake with the left foot, depress the accelerator with the right foot, and release the brake when the vehicle's posture slowly "raises its head", we can obtain A kind of ejection effect, at this time the acceleration time of 0-50km/h can be as fast as 2.8 seconds.

However, it is also because the Boyue L Hi·F gasoline-electric hybrid version is equipped with a 3-speed DHT electric drive transmission. It will automatically shift gears at a speed of about 80km/h, and there will be a gear shift of about a few tenths of a second. Delay, so the hybrid version only tests the acceleration time of 0-50km/h. According to actual measurements by media colleagues who test-drove the fuel version, the Boyue L 2.0T (160kW/325N·m) version can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers in about 7.3 seconds, and its power performance is also quite outstanding.

After completing the 0-50km/h acceleration test, the second item of the Boyue L track test drive was a high-speed curve. The specific requirement was to pass a high-speed curve at a speed of 70km/h. All new cars are equipped with an independent suspension combination of MacPherson struts at the front and multi-link at the rear, and thanks to the chassis tuning skills under the CMA architecture, when the author drove the Boyue L through high-speed corners, the whole car gave me a The support performance is close to that of German cars, the vehicle roll is suppressed very well, and the cornering posture is stable.

In the subsequent serpentine around piles and emergency lane change tests, even though I performed them at a speed of about 70km/h, although the vehicle had a certain roll when passing, the vehicle The strong support of the suspension and the intervention of the body stabilization system can keep the vehicle in a controllable state at all times. During the entire passing process, the body follows very well, which makes me feel confident in driving.

In addition to the driving performance, the Boyue L is infinitely close to that of German cars, and the driving comfort of the new car is also impressive. When driving through a bumpy road section simulated by a matrix of speed bumps at low speeds, the Boyue L's suspension handled the bumps very cleanly and did not cause any unnecessary jumps; the vehicle chassis was also able to handle the bumps easily during the entire test drive. It absorbs small vibrations well, and you can hardly feel small bumps from the road when driving on paved roads, and the integrity is very good.

Of course, as an urban SUV, the vehicle's NVH performance is also an indicator that consumers focus on. However, I would like to state in advance that because Pingtan is located in one of the "three major wind outlets in the world", and the weather on the day of the test drive was not good, with constant winds of level 7 and 8 in the venue, the author cannot yet make a judgment on the vehicle's wind noise suppression results. But what is certain is that after the vehicle reaches a speed of 100km/h, the Boyue L still controls road and tire noise very well.

As for the steering feel of the vehicle, the author used the "smart mode" throughout the four driving modes. At this time, the damping feeling of the steering wheel is proportional to the vehicle speed. In short, it gives me the best steering at all times. The feel is worthy of praise.

Finally, this is my personal complaint about the Boyue L Hi F hybrid version. Although its stopping distance in the actual 100km/h-0 braking test is 35m, it is a relatively good one. level, but the braking feel feedback it gave me was not too cold. The specific performance was that the first half of the braking process was "empty", and the second half was too solid, that is, "not linear enough". However, after three laps of the test drive at the venue, I've adapted quite a bit.

In general, the driving quality of the Boyue L at a price of 150,000 yuan should be the best in its class. The performance of the suspension support, chassis vibration filtering, NVH performance, etc. are all relatively outstanding. . In other words, whether we are commuting for daily use, or going to the mountain roads to have a little "speed and passion", the Boyue L can take care of it. Therefore, I personally think that "the price of 150,000 is the best urban SUV". Yue L is worthy of its name.

Since many media colleagues, including me, have already written about the static experience of Boyue L, I won’t go into details here. I will mainly talk about the author’s personal subjective feelings.

First of all, let me talk about my favorite part about the styling of the Boyue L. The daytime running lights of the Boyue L adopt a through-type LED light strip design. At the same time, it also cleverly integrates the car logo into it. The imposing large-area blackened air intake grille makes the entire front face highly recognizable and has a strong visual impact, while the daytime running light strip composed of 182 LED light-emitting units also brings a good look to the front of the car. sense of technology.

However, regarding the side and rear design of the vehicle, especially the D-pillar part of the vehicle, I personally feel that the Boyue L is a little too hard. The waistline of the body is obviously raised here, which is different from the slightly sloping back. The suspended roof shape is visually restrained, which ultimately makes the visual center of gravity of the rear of the vehicle somewhat high, which does not match the front half of the vehicle. Of course, this is my personal aesthetic preference, and you can also express your thoughts in the comment area.

Turn my eyes to the inside of the car, and the Boyue L gave me an immediate feeling of "Ji Krypton 001" at a glance, especially the shape of its LCD instrument panel is exactly the same as that of JK 001. But to be honest, the design of the enveloping cockpit, coupled with the large number of suede materials wrapped in the car, the paint decorative panels, the application of stitching technology, etc., the exquisiteness and luxury of the Boyue L car are among the same level. It's definitely top-notch.

Written at the end

After some experience, I was deeply impressed by the overall mechanical quality of Boyue L. It is worthy of the name of "the best urban SUV" , coupled with its youthful, sporty exterior styling and high-quality interior design, I personally feel that after the new car is launched, the Boyue L should become the strongest dark horse in the independent compact SUV market this year. There is no doubt that .

But to be honest, this Boyue L test drive event still left me with a big regret. Due to the design of the itinerary and activities, I have not yet experienced the NOA high-end intelligent driving navigation system promoted by the new car owner. . It is reported that Geely will launch a national public test of the NOA high-end intelligent driving navigation system in late October. I hope that by then I can experience the "complete" Boyue L and bring you the latest evaluation of the new car.
