The cost of wall tiles is too high. Can I stick wall tiles?

Wall tiles, as the name implies, are put on the wall, not the wall tiles. Some people think that the floor tiles are large in size and flat in surface, so they look more atmospheric after being stuck on the wall. Some people think that sticking the floor tiles on the wall saves the trouble of returning the remaining floor tiles. Others think that sticking floor tiles on the wall can save money on buying wall tiles.

Today, let's talk about the difference in construction technology between sticking tiles on the wall and sticking bricks directly on the wall. Is it worth it?

The reason for choosing the largest water absorption rate is to separate the floor tiles from the wall tiles. The biggest reason is the different water absorption rate-if water is poured on the back of the tile, it will seep into the tile. The amount of water seepage is related to the water absorption of ceramic tiles.

The high water absorption of ceramic tiles has a disadvantage, that is, the texture is loose and the hardness is low. Obviously, this kind of tile is not suitable for laying on the ground, because the ground wear is relatively large. Generally speaking, we take the water absorption 10% as the boundary, and the water absorption of floor tiles is generally below 10% (generally around 5%); The water absorption of wall brick is above 10%.

The low water absorption rate of ceramic tiles also has an obvious disadvantage, that is, it is not firmly pasted. For floor tiles, the gravity of the tiles is downward, just pressing on the cement mortar. Therefore, the low water absorption rate of floor tiles has little effect on the stability of paste.

The wall tiles are different. They stick to the side. When the wall tiles are subjected to downward gravity, the tiles are easy to fall off.

Therefore, if you plan to stick a floor tile on the wall, you must first ensure that the water absorption rate of the floor tile is not too low-it is appropriate to control it between 5% and 8%. Only such floor tiles can be installed on the wall. Of course, the wear resistance of this kind of floor tile is not high, and it can only be wronged for floor tiles.

After cutting, the trouble of material selection, and then the trouble of technology. Why do the tiles on the wall give people the feeling of "atmosphere"? The main reason is that the floor tiles are large in size and there are not many gaps on the wall. The whole wall seems to be integrated and looks very atmospheric.

But if the tiles are too big, it is not a good thing. The bigger the tile, the greater its own weight, and the easier it is to fall off when it is stuck on the wall. Now the common floor tiles are all 800*800mm in size, so before sticking them on the wall, they must be cut: now a cut in the middle becomes 400 * 800 mm.

In the process of paving, these floor tiles still have to face a lot of cutting. There are often many corners on the wall, and the size of the tiles is too large, so it is difficult to design the corner at the joint of two tiles. So what should we do? You can only cut the tiles. Many tiles are made by hand.

Even if you choose a tile with a slightly higher water absorption, the size of the tile will be reduced before paving, but it is still not enough. Compared with wall tiles, the water absorption of this kind of floor tiles is still too low and the size is still too large. Therefore, we have to use another building material: tile glue.

Ceramic tile adhesive has stronger adhesion. Replacing the traditional cement mortar with tile binder can help the floor tile to be better fixed on the wall. But there are two problems with tile glue:

1. The price is high. Compared with cement mortar, the price of tile glue may increase by about 2 times.

2. The construction is troublesome, so it needs to be stirred in advance, solidified for a long time and then stirred, and then scraped out the stripes with a toothed scraper before paving.

If you really like the visual effect of ceramic tile on the wall, you can of course choose ceramic tile on the wall-just pay attention to the above construction steps (don't forget to invite an experienced worker). But if it is to save trouble and money, I suggest giving up this idea as soon as possible: it is neither convenient nor economical to stick tiles on the wall.

In fact, there are many ways to make the effect similar to that of floor tiles on the wall. We can use wall bricks to achieve the same effect, and the construction is more convenient. Therefore, if possible, it is recommended not to use floor tiles as the first choice.
