Tell me how you protect your personal safety during welding?

In welding operations, if personal protection is ignored, the human body is still at risk of injury (especially when working in a closed container). Therefore, it is crucial to strengthen personal protection measures. General personal protection measures include wearing work clothes, shoes, hats, gloves, glasses, masks, face shields and other protective equipment. Air-supply helmets and protective masks can be used as needed. For example, air supply helmet-type masks can be divided into: top air supply type, bottom air supply type and built-in fan type. It must be noted that the air source should be purified fresh air, and oxygen is not allowed to be used instead to avoid combustion and explosion accidents. In the welding industry operations, the hazards mainly include arc light, radioactivity and noise.

For arc protection

① During welding operations, work clothes, shoes, hats, gloves, glasses and other protective equipment must be worn in accordance with relevant regulations. Rolling up sleeves or opening clothes is not allowed. collar or tuck your top into your pants.

②A suitable, reliable protective mask with special filter lenses must be used during welding operations. Filter lenses should have good absorption or reflection capabilities for strong visible light, ultraviolet, and infrared rays, and should be selected based on the welder's vision and the intensity of the welding current.

③ In order to prevent the welding arc from harming others, fire-resistant and heat-insulating protective screens can be set up around the welding work site. When striking the arc, pay attention to avoiding flashes and alerting surrounding people.

④ If it is found that electro-optical ophthalmia is caused by arc light, milk spot treatment, cool material application, cold water immersion and fire treatment can generally be used for treatment or hospital treatment.

⑤ For special welding methods (such as argon arc welding, plasma arc welding), work clothes should be changed (such as woolen work clothes).

For radioactive protection

① Special grinding wheels should be provided for sharpening thorium tungsten rods, and dust removal equipment should be installed on the grinding wheels. The grinding debris on the ground of the grinder is often cleaned by wet cleaning and concentrated and deeply buried. The floors and walls should be paved with ceramic tiles or terrazzo to facilitate cleaning of dirt.

②The welding location should be equipped with a single room. The storage location of thoriated tungsten rods should be fixed in the basement and stored in a closed box. Large quantities should be stored in iron boxes and ventilation devices should be installed.

③When performing manual welding operations, you must wear an air-supply helmet or take other effective ventilation measures. Wear a dust mask when sharpening thoriated tungsten electrodes.

④ Use arc-stabilizing exhaust hoods as much as possible according to production conditions, and the hood should not be opened casually during operation.

⑤ Reasonable selection of process specifications is required to avoid excessive burning of thoriated tungsten electrodes.

⑥ Wash your hands with running water and soapy water after coming into contact with thorium tungsten electrodes.

Noise protection

Noise protection measures must be taken during plasma arc welding and cutting. The main measures are as follows.

①Choose a small silencer.

②Wear sound-isolating earmuffs or sound-isolating earplugs. Earmuffs have better sound isolation than earplugs, but they are larger and less convenient to wear. The sound isolation performance of earplugs is 10-15dB at low frequencies and 20-30dB at mid-frequency.

③The noise intensity generated by the plasma arc welding process is related to the type and flow rate of the working gas. Therefore, under the premise of meeting the quality requirements, try to choose a small specification and small gas volume.

④ Use automation as much as possible so that operators can work in a control room with good sound insulation.

⑤ When plasma cutting, you can use water cutting method to absorb noise by using water.
