Xiaomi 9 SE evaluation: I use a small screen flagship that I can't go back.

At the previous press conference, Xiaomi not only brought the performance flagship Xiaomi 9, but also released a small-screen flagship Xiaomi 9 SE, which is a good-looking and capable product that is easily overlooked by everyone.

In terms of appearance, Xiaomi 9 SE is basically a small screen version of Xiaomi 9, and the back shell is made of gradient glass, which retains the vertical three-shot and water drop screen of Xiaomi 9.

In terms of configuration, Xiaomi 9 SE adopts 5.97-inch 2340× 1080 resolution AMOLED water drop screen, equipped with Snapdragon 7 12 processor, built-in 6GB memory and 64/ 128GB body storage space, providing a 20-megapixel camera in front and 48 million (Sony IMX 586)+800 in rear.

Compared with Xiaomi 9, the hardware changes of Xiaomi 9 SE include screen size, processor, specifications of ultra-wide angle and telephoto lens, wireless fast charging is cancelled, and wired fast charging is reduced from 27W to mainstream 18W, while other functions such as NFC and infrared are retained.

Thanks to the reduction of hardware cost, the starting price of Xiaomi 9 SE has dropped from 2,999 yuan of Xiaomi 9 to 1999 yuan, and the high-end version of 6+ 128GB is only 2,299 yuan.

Then, can this model carry the banner of Xiaomi at the price of 1999 yuan? Let's look at the details.

The front of Xiaomi 9 SE looks very similar to Xiaomi 9, but the back design is obviously different from Xiaomi 9. Due to cost and other reasons, Xiaomi 9 SE uses flat glass instead of curved glass back shell of Xiaomi 9.

Although the handle of flat glass is not as good as the curved glass of Xiaomi 9 in theory, Xiaomi 9 SE is superior to its small size, so there is no discomfort in the grip and even a thin feeling.

On the system side, Xiaomi 9 SE runs MIUI 10.2 stable version system, and the UI is exactly the same as Xiaomi 8 and Xiaomi MIX3, but the function has been enhanced.

Among them, the most enviable function for Xiaomi 8 and Xiaomi MIX3 users is the dark mode.

The dark mode here is not a simple black theme provided by the app store, but a "dark mode" option is provided directly in the "Display" menu of the "System", which can basically realize the global black mode.

After the actual measurement is started, except for some third-party themes, the system can basically realize the global black mode, which will obviously save more power for AMOLED screens.

As for third-party applications, they need to be adapted to support dark mode. When it can be supported is not determined by Xiaomi, and the official promise will coordinate the developers to adapt as soon as possible.

As for the Turbo function of the game mentioned at the press conference, Xiaomi 9 SE has not been provided yet, and the official promise will be provided in the subsequent OTA update.

Xiaomi 9 SE is equipped with Snapdragon 7 12 processor, which is the first in the world.

In terms of specifications, Snapdragon 7 12 adopts the same 10nm FinFET process as Snapdragon 7 10, and adopts the Kryo 360 architecture of eight nuclear, with the highest frequency of 2.3GHz, and the GPU model is Adreno 6 16, which supports 4K HDR and USB Type-C video output.

Compared with Snapdragon's 7 10, Snapdragon's 7 12 has a higher frequency (the former is 2.2GHz), so Qualcomm officially claims that its performance is higher than Snapdragon's 7 10/0%.

In terms of other configurations, Xiaomi 9 SE also has built-in 6GB memory and 64/ 128GB body storage space (UFS 2. 1), so it can be said that the hardware has not shrunk significantly, which is in line with the net worth of 1999 yuan.

In terms of performance, the measured running score of Ann Bunny is 178899, which does not reach the height of 187000 mentioned at the press conference, but the performance is still excellent.

In terms of storage performance, the reading and writing speeds measured by Andro Bench are 48 1.68MB/s and 186.64MB/s respectively, and the random reading and writing abilities are 1 13.74MB/s and 23.25MB/s respectively.

It is said that UFS 2. 1 was adopted. Why is the reading ability only about half that of Xiaomi 9? This is the limitation brought by the platform of Snapdragon 7 12, which only supports single-channel UFS flash memory, resulting in an obvious gap between reading ability and dual channels.

As for the random writing ability, MIUI system turns on full encryption by default, and the random writing ability is low, but it is very important for the security of user data. I think it is worthwhile to exchange performance for security.

Xiaomi 9 SE also spent a lot of money on this photo shoot. The front camera is 20 million pixels of the same model as Xiaomi 9. Although the rear camera is also three shots, the ultra-wide angle and telephoto lens have changed compared with Xiaomi 9, and the main camera still keeps the IMX586 with 48 million pixels unchanged.

This group of photos has wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle and telephoto modes in the same position, all of which are autofocus modes.

Thanks to the addition of super wide angle, the visual range is greatly improved after turning on super wide angle. The scene that needs to be adjusted originally can be presented "panorama" only by turning on the super wide-angle mode. The telephoto lens brings twice the optical zoom ability, far exceeding the effect brought by the algorithm cropping.

Of course, the advantage of the super wide-angle mode is not only that the shooting range is wider, but Xiaomi also uses this lens to achieve macro shooting. The three pictures in the above article were taken at a distance of about 5- 10cm from the scene, and there was no out-of-focus situation, and the background blur effect was satisfactory.

In terms of super night scenes, Xiaomi 9 SE has not fallen. The actual measurement can really improve the impression of photos in dark environment, make the dark parts brighter, and the highlight suppression effect is equally good. Pay attention to the crescent moon in the last picture, and the details are basically preserved.

Charging and battery life: 18W fast charging performance is good.

Xiaomi 9 SE is equipped with 3070mAh battery, 18W fast charge. The supported protocol is PD, but fast charging can also be realized by using Qualcomm QC3.0 charger.

In terms of charging speed, when the remaining power is 10%, the power is charged to 52% (42%) in half an hour and 90% in 50 minutes, but then the charging power drops sharply in the trickle stage, and it takes 85 minutes to fully charge.

It should be noted that the above data are measured under normal use, and applications such as WeChat and Weibo are used in the background. Two cards of China Mobile Unicom were inserted into the mobile phone and dual 4G standby was selected to connect to the office Wi-Fi network.

In terms of battery life, thanks to the low power consumption performance of Xiaolong 7 12 platform, the battery life of Xiaomi 9 SE is basically satisfactory.

The card is used normally, and the remaining power is 20% after standby 16 hours (system statistics show that the bright screen is used for 4 hours).

It should be noted that in the bright screen state, high-intensity tests are basically being carried out, including taking pictures and running away. At the same time, there are operations such as swiping Weibo and WeChat.

In the game state, after eating chicken for half an hour, the power consumption of the system is reduced from 32% to 22%, and the power consumption is * * * 10%.

In addition, it is worth mentioning that, due to the GPU performance of Snapdragon 7 12 platform, Absolute Survival: Attack of the Whole Army can support high-definition picture quality at the highest level, and HDR HD mode cannot be turned on, but the picture is basically stable in the high frame rate mode with anti-aliasing, and there is no obvious jam.

Before using Xiaomi 9 SE, the author's main mobile phones were iPhone 8 Plus and Xiaomi MIX3. Users who have come into contact with these two mobile phones should know that they are all "heavyweight" products exceeding 200 g.

After switching to Xiaomi 9 SE, the author was attracted by its light and thin feel for the first time, and it was even a little uncomfortable to switch back to iPhone 8 Plus and Xiaomi MIX3.

So, is 5.97 inches small? The author can give a positive answer here. In the era of full screen, because the screen ratio has evolved from 16: 9 to more than 18:9, even the 5.97-inch screen is smaller than the previous 5.5-inch mobile phone. The width of Xiaomi 9 SE is only 70.5mm, while the width of most previous 5.5-inch 16:9 mobile phones exceeded 75 mm. The national screen has not greatly increased the size of the fuselage, especially the width, but the screen size has increased. In addition, at present, the mainstream national screen sizes are all above 6 inches, and even around 6.5 inches is not uncommon. In contrast, 5.97 inches is really a "small screen".

It can be said that thinness has become the biggest advantage of Xiaomi 9 SE, and the advantage of easy operation with one hand can completely make you forget the "regrets" such as no Snapdragon 855 and no wireless charging.

In terms of performance, Snapdragon 7 12 can fully meet the daily needs of ordinary users, and Snapdragon 7 12 can cope with whether eating chicken or the glory of the king. The addition of UFS flash memory also greatly reduces the game loading speed. You know, many products at this price are equipped with eMMC flash memory.

As for taking pictures, it is the advantage of Xiaomi 9 SE. At this price, Xiaomi 9 SE's camera ability is almost the most balanced. The 48-megapixel main camera with super wide-angle and telephoto lens brings an excellent photo experience. Of course, like Xiaomi 9, Xiaomi 9 SE sensory sensor IMX 586 has not been thoroughly seen (night scenes and super macro occasionally lose focus), and Xiaomi should further enhance the camera experience through OTA in the future.

After several days of experience, the author thinks that Xiaomi 9 SE is really a small-screen flagship that can't be returned after use. The price from 1999 yuan is worthy of its configuration and user experience.

Of course, it would be nice if the supply could be stronger.
