This is an evaluation of MG6 that I wrote before when answering other people’s posts. See if it is helpful to you.
I bought the mg6 1.8 manual Lunar New Year Edition in March 2011. Back version. Now that I have more say in this car, let me tell you my feelings.
This car really has very obvious advantages and disadvantages.
Let’s talk about the advantages first: 1. Appearance. Needless to say, it is very popular and many people think it is a 20W-30W car. Haha...
2. Although the interior is not as eye-catching as the Roewe 550, it is in line with the positioning of the MG6 and is very upscale, especially the handbrake design is very smooth. After getting used to it, it feels better than the traditional version. The handbrake is much easier to use and doesn't take up much space.
3. The speakers are very powerful for a car in this price range. Although I don’t know the brand, the sound quality is pretty good. I have burned a lot of CDs in lossless format and enjoyed listening to them.
4. At high speed, the engine is very powerful. To use an exaggeration, the speed-increasing ability between 80-150 is unrivaled by cars of the same level and price. It's so comfortable to overtake at high speed.
5. Workmanship, although it is relatively pure domestically produced, the workmanship is completely comparable to European and American joint venture cars, and is much better than some Japanese joint venture cars. This is also an important reason why this car looks high-end. First, anyway, after test driving the MG6, I was disgusted by the interior workmanship of the classic Ma 3.
6. The trunk capacity is amazing. This is also due to the sporty fastback shape + hatchback design. The depth, height and opening size of the trunk are very impressive. The depth of the rear seats reaches 2M after they are folded flat. It’s a tent, haha. No problem sleeping 2-3 people. According to an expert on the forum, this is a powerful tool for picking up girls, haha
7. Safety. Thick and strong doors, three-speed door bearings, 1.5T vehicle weight, solid workmanship, strong front and rear crash barriers, etc. Anyway, driving this car on the road makes you feel confident about safety.
8. The high-speed stability is good. The aerodynamic design of the car should be good. Remember to check online that the wind resistance is within 3, which is comparable to a supercar. Coupled with the heavy body, high-revving engine, etc., it can be said that the high-speed running ability of MG6 is created. I won’t say more about this. If you really buy this car, you will fully understand when driving on the highway. MG6 is indeed a trot, and it is still very stable up to 180 pulses.
9. The inhalation feeling of the gearbox is pretty good.
There are also a lot of shortcomings:
1. Fuel consumption. It’s a headache. With such a heavy car, wide tires, a displacement of 1.8, and a high-revving engine that is weak at low speeds, there is almost no way to save fuel. My current fuel consumption is about 11 in the city, 8 in the suburbs, and 9.5 combined. I think even if you drive calmly, the overall fuel consumption will be a little higher than Volkswagen's cars of the same displacement. I think it's best to control it between 8.5-9.
2. Sight. This problem may be present in all current cars, but it is more obvious in the MG6. The A-pillar can completely block a motorcycle; the rear windshield window is also small. When reversing, you must practice looking at the left and right rearview mirrors. If you want to have a wide field of vision, you can only see above the rear door handle. If you want to see If it's near the rear wheel eyebrow, the view of the road behind will be affected.
3. Riding space. Although I think the seating space is enough for me, I still want to list it as a shortcoming. Because our family members are relatively thin, I + my wife + my parents, with an average height of 1.7cm, can sit in this car without being crowded. However, if there are a few big and strong men with a height of 1.8 or above, it will be difficult to say, mainly because the headroom in the back row is too ordinary. It's also because of the fastback design. You really need to pay more attention to the rear headroom to see if it's suitable for your family's actual situation. In addition, the space of the Nissan New Sunshine that my uncle bought is really awesome. Sometimes I have to admire the ability of Japanese cars in this regard. Such a small car can create such a large space.
4. Disadvantages of high-speed engines. Driving in the city is very tiring. When starting with a few more people in the car, the car shakes and shakes, as if it is about to stall. When starting on a hill with a load, the engine will stall if the accelerator and clutch are not controlled properly. Sigh...that's quite embarrassing.
In addition, the 1st and 2nd gears of the MG6 are not very effective in speeding up. Sometimes, if you are annoyed by others cutting into the lane, you have to step on the accelerator to squeeze, and then you will feel very distressed about the fuel consumption - -#
5. Light Quantification is not done well. Regarding this issue, let me first state that this is my personal opinion, haha. The safety of MG6 is indeed good, but the price is too high. If you think about mainstream cars in Europe and the United States, take Volkswagen as an example. How does the safety of MG6 compare with Volkswagen? It should be said that each has its own merits, but the MG6 is much heavier than the Volkswagen cars of the same level, which shows that the lightweight of the MG6 is very poor. In fact, I feel that a good car should use as little weight as possible to achieve the same level of safety. At least the MG6 does this very poorly. If the weight reduction can be done well, the MG6 will have more economical fuel consumption, shorter braking distance and higher speed-up capability. However, at present, SAIC is not capable of this.
6. The on-board computer’s fuel consumption display is very misleading. At first, I thought the MG6 was very fuel-efficient, but it actually showed 7.6. Later, I recorded the data every time I refueled and found out that the actual fuel consumption turned out to be 9. It was an absolute lie.
7. When the weather is cold, the MG6's gearbox will become jerky and it is not suitable to shift into gear. Therefore, brothers who have long winters in the north suggest that you go to a 4S shop for a test drive when the weather is cold to make sure. Can this car's gearbox adapt to your temperature? For reference, I live in Shandong. For about 2 months every year, the gearbox does not work very well. It mainly manifests in the cold car state at the beginning. After the car warms up when driving, it no longer feels like this.
8. The storage space in the front row is average, especially on the driver's side. There are only two cup holders in the entire front row, and one of them is in the armrest box. I usually like to put some in the armrest box. There's no way to hold a driver's license, charging cable, or anything like a cup. The spring-loaded cup holder saves space, but it's not very useful either. The Pulse cannot be put in, and the glass teacup is very unstable when put in. The center of gravity is high, and it is easy to pour out if it is shaken. If you want a cup of hot water, you will be depressed. In addition, the position of the spring cup holder is not suitable for putting a hot water cup, otherwise you have to change gears. Your arms will be familiar by the time.
In addition, I would like to talk about a few issues that I don’t know whether to put in the shortcomings. Whether you like these issues depends on the individual. It’s not a hard disadvantage:
1. Noise. There is a lot of noise inside the car, with tire noise and engine noise also being loud. Not enough, since it is a sports car, if you can't hear the roar of the engine, it will lose a bit of flavor. This depends on personal preference. I personally feel that the sound of the MG6 engine is very nice and powerful. It just kind of affects the appreciation of music, haha.
2. Control. The suspension is very stiff, the chassis is low, and the steering wheel directionality is average. These control performance all depend on personal preference. Hard suspension corresponds to stable support for steering and various discomforts when passing through pits. The low chassis corresponds to the high-speed stability of cement asphalt roads and various potholes that others can pass but you cannot. The directivity of the steering wheel corresponds to the vehicle body stability of fine-tuning the direction at high speeds and the steering delay of the steering wheel at low speeds.
3. Accelerate. The speed increase of MG6 is very special. The high-revving engine and SAIC's tuning make this car easily misunderstood as a meat car. According to daily driving, shift gears within 3000 rpm. Every time you step on the accelerator after entering a gear, you will feel that the engine output power is off at first. Low, you have to hold it down for about 1 to 2 seconds before you can feel the rapid and powerful output of the engine power. It gives people the feeling of a smooth and stable start, or on the other hand, a weak start without a feeling of pushing back. It all depends on personal needs. If you want to pick up girls by pushing your back, you will have to increase the speed. If you are picking up your wife and children, this starting method is very gentle and suitable.
There are many advantages and disadvantages, but I can’t remember them for a while.
To summarize, what can I say about this car? SAIC intends to use all aspects of this car’s performance in the 80-150 speed range, in line with the positioning of the MG6 as a sports car. Indeed, compared to some cars that only have a sports shell but no sports soul, the MG6 is fully equipped for sports, but these are also based on the comfort and performance of the car, such as in crowded urban areas. Inside, the MG6 is really too talented. It can't run even if it runs. The fuel consumption is still so high. With such a streamlined body and such a low drag coefficient, it can only be displayed for others to see at the time.
As for the cost-effectiveness of MG6, in my opinion, compared to this performance, this workmanship, and this configuration, it’s worth it! But I have to advise you: MG6 is good but it is not suitable for everyone. You should consider whether you can accept the shortcomings of MG6 and whether you can use the advantages of MG6 before deciding whether to buy it.
