Academy is a special educational institution in ancient China, just like our primary schools, middle schools and universities. It first appeared in the Tang Dynasty, but at that time, the officially sponsored academy seemed to be just a palace library, and it didn't have much lecture function. Ancient academy

Academies flourished in the Song Dynasty, and a large number of private academies sprang up. In the early years of the Northern Song Dynasty, Bailudong Academy in Lushan, Jiangxi, Yuelu Academy in Changsha, Hunan, Yingtian Academy in Shangqiu, Henan, and Songyang Academy in Songshan were called "Four Ancient Chinese Academies". Each of the four academies has its own unique achievements.

The academy is somewhat similar to our current university, focusing on educating elites and people with certain knowledge. Those who study in the academy are mainly self-taught, and the guidance of teachers only plays an auxiliary role. Bailudong Academy is located in Wulaofeng, Lushan Mountain. Legend has it that there was a man named Li Bo in the Tang Dynasty. He studied here in seclusion when he was young. Li Bo keeps a pet, not a cat or a dog, but a white deer. After getting along with people for a long time, this white deer has become very human. If the owner tells it to go east, it will never go west. When the owner tells him to stand, he will never lie down, and he can even help the owner pass things. People are surprised by this and call it "the magic deer". Therefore, Rip is called "Mr. Bailuyuan".

Later, Rip became a big official and often missed his school days when he was young, so he built some pavilions here, which were later called "White Deer Cave". There is no cave in Bailudong, because the terrain here is low and looks like a hole from the mountain. In the Ming Dynasty, some people thought it was a misnomer to call it a "cave", but there was no "cave", so they dug a cave in the mountain. Others thought it was inappropriate to call it "White Deer Cave" instead of "White Deer Cave", so they carved a white deer out of a stone and put it in the cave. However, everyone's views are always different. Some people think that there is no need to dig a hole to release the deer, so they invite the white deer out of the hole and bury it deep underground. In modern times, people inadvertently dug the white deer out of the ground, so they put it next to the cave.

In the early years of the Northern Song Dynasty, the Dasong Dynasty had just emerged from the haze of war, and everything was in ruins, and officials were thirsty for knowledge. But at that time, education was completely destroyed, and the official school was just starting, but this kind of non-governmental organization, the academy, took advantage of it. When the regime in the Northern Song Dynasty was stable and various fields flourished, the academy was gradually replaced by official schools, and it was silent for more than a hundred years until the Southern Song Dynasty.

Bailudong College is no exception, but it is very lucky. Master of Science Zhu came to Bailudong Academy this year and was deeply impressed by the broken wall of weeds everywhere. So he ordered the restoration of Bailudong Academy, which transformed Bailudong Academy. The teaching theory and methods he created in Bailudong Academy were imitated by other academies, and the academy developed to the extreme in the Southern Song Dynasty. Zhu laid a solid foundation for the academic status of Bailudong Academy in the next 700 years. It was not until the end of the imperial examination system in Qing Dynasty that it was called "China No.1 Academy".

After the ups and downs of Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, Emperor Guangxu in the late Qing Dynasty ordered the academy to be changed into a school at 190 1, and began to imitate the western reform education. Since then, the academy has withdrawn from the historical stage.
