Yuan Shu's territory (How big is Yuan Shu's territory? )
At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, the world was in chaos, and various governors became independent. But in fact, before Cao Pi usurped Han to stand on his own feet and the Three Kingdoms were formed, Yuan Shu was the only one who proclaimed himself emperor. Yuan Shu seems to be a straw bag-like figure in everyone's impression, with the evaluation of "bones in the grave". So what was Yuan Shu like in real history? How much territory did he occupy and dare to call himself emperor?
When it comes to the history of the Three Kingdoms at the end of the Han Dynasty, Yuan Shao seems to have more weight than Yuan Shu, because Yuan Shao and Cao Cao had such a decisive battle as the battle of Guandu. But in fact, before the battle of Guandu, Yuan Shao and Yuan Shu were the best among all the governors in the world. Here to explain, Yuan Shao and Yuan Shu are half-brothers, but Yuan Shao is a concubine and Yuan Shu is the eldest son, so Yuan Shu has always looked down on Yuan Shao. In A.D. 190, after various governors begged Dong Zhuo, they began to enter a period of melee among various warlords. Yuan Shao is in Hebei, Yuan Shu is in Huainan, and other governors are actually either attached to Yuan Shao or Yuan Shu. So some people say that Yuan Shu was once the biggest vassal in the late Han Dynasty, and there was not even one.
Yuan Shu is the son of Yuan Jia, a famous family living under one roof for four generations, so before the chaos in the world, officials from Yuan Shu went to Ren Yin and the samurai corps commander in Henan. Zhong Ping six years (189), ten attendants killed blades, Yuan Shu and Wu Kuang jointly attacked the palace, and eunuchs fought with weapons. Yuan Shu burned the east and west palaces of Kowloon Gate and Nangong, forcing ten attendants to abandon the palace and flee. Later, Dong Zhuo entered Luoyang and Yuan Shu fled to Nanyang. Sun Jian, the prefect of Changsha, killed Zhang Zi, the prefect of Wan, and led his troops to follow. Liu Biao was the satrap of Nanyang, and his skill was strong, which led to the secretariat of Yuzhou. "From the point of Sun Jian's initiative to join Yuan Shu, this is actually a deal between them. Because Sun Jian was born in poverty, and Yuan Shu had the right to speak among the governors. As a result, Yuan Shu successfully occupied Nanyang and conquered such a valiant soldier as Sun Jian.
Where is Nanyang? Liu Xiu, Emperor Guangwu of Han Dynasty, is known as the hometown of emperors. The emperors of the Eastern Han Dynasty attached great importance to the construction of Nanyang. At the end of the Han Dynasty, Nanyang not only had more than 30 kilometers of counties and cities, but also had a population of more than 2 million. Not only that, Nanyang and its surrounding Huainan area also belong to the water town. This is the richest and most prosperous area. When Yuan Shu controlled the territory of three counties and eleven counties in Jianghuai area, Yuan Shao and Cao Caocai had just started a war. At its peak, Yuan Shu occupied a small part of Yangzhou, Yuzhou, Li Si and Jingzhou, and Gongsun Zan formed an alliance with Yuan Shu in the north. Later, Tao Qian, Lu Bu and Sun Ce were all subordinate to Yuan Shu, so Yuan Shu was the biggest vassal at the end of Han Dynasty. He was rich in territory and had a large population in Mazhuang, and his troops were stronger than Ma Zhuang.
Perhaps it was his own background, powerful power and the decline of the Han Dynasty that made Yuan Shu have the idea of being the boss himself. In the second year of Jian 'an (197), Yuan Shu proclaimed himself emperor in Shouchun. When Yuan Shu proclaimed himself emperor, his sphere of influence reached Runan in the west, Guo Pei in the north, Guangling in the east and Huiji in the south. There are about eight counties, one state and a half, which is equivalent to the later Shu state. Before Yuan Shu proclaimed himself emperor, Lu Bu flirted with Yuan Shu who occupied Xuzhou at that time, and Sun Ce crossed Jiangdong and attacked from all sides. After Yuan Shu proclaimed himself emperor, Lu Bu, Sun Ce and Yuan Shu broke up, and the whole world rose up and attacked him. This was betrayal.
After Yuan Shu proclaimed himself emperor, he lived a luxurious and dissolute life. There are hundreds of wives and concubines in the harem, all wearing Luo Qili's clothes and all kinds of exquisite food, but the soldiers in his army are in a state of hunger and cold. Under his corrupt rule, the people in the Jianghuai area were miserable, many places were cut off from traffic, and even cannibalism occurred during the famine. In AD 199, two years after Yuan Shu proclaimed himself emperor, under the siege of Lu Bu, Cao Cao, Liu Bei and others, Yuan Shu fled from east to west and retreated to Jiangting. At that time, there were only 30 wheat crumbs in the army, and it was hot in June. Yuan Shu wanted honey pulp to quench his thirst, but there was no honey. After sighing for half a day, Naida said, "How did Uncle Yuan get to this point!" Finally, he vomited blood and died.
Shu Yuan is actually a proper tycoon constantly chauffeured. He was born in the Eastern Han Dynasty, which means that he can also have high officials and rich people when he is lying down. In troubled times, Yuan Shu also made great achievements with the political capital of his family background. But Yuan Shu is extravagant in nature and limited in ability. After he became arrogant and called the emperor, he soon abandoned his relatives and died without even taking a sip of honey syrup. What a pity!
