Talk about the reasons why the Filipinos are not strong in competing for Huangyan Island.

The first is the issue of national strength. The Philippines and China are far apart, so they can't compete with China militarily or economically, and their people know it well. The Philippines is not only highly dependent on China in international trade, but also controlled by China Capital in its domestic livelihood industries such as energy, transportation and water supply. In fact, their economic lifeline is in the hands of China people, and confrontation with China can only lead to the collapse of the Philippine domestic economy.

The second is the political consciousness of the people. Filipinos are more inclined to Latin America and Africa. They are happy, happy, easy to satisfy, have no long-term planning and are extremely insensitive to politics. For them, there are thousands of islands in China, and Huangyan Island is just a negligible coral reef. If the government is not so corrupt that the people are in poverty, they don't even care about their own domestic politics, let alone this little dispute in China. Singing and dancing are better than anything when you are full.

I think the above two points are the main reasons why Filipinos are unwilling to participate in the dispute over Huangyan Island.

I happened to be in Manila on business during the most intense week of dispute between China and Huangyan Island. I thought there would be overwhelming opposition to China in China.
