Tianhou Palace is a temple dedicated to Poseidon, which was built to protect the grain transportation under the condition of great development of grain transportation.

Tianhou Palace was built in Taiding, Yuan Dynasty, a.d. 1326, east-west. It is the oldest building in Tianjin.

From east to west, Tianhou Palace is composed of theaters, banners, mountain gates, architectural signs, anterooms, main halls, Tibetan Classics Pavilion, shrines for opening shrines, Bell and Drum Tower, Zhangxian Pavilion and attached halls.

The north and south halls are dedicated to grandma, elder brother carrying water, medicine delivery, old lady Bai, dragon king and medicine fetching god.

At present, the wings on both sides of Tianhou Palace display the rise and changes of Tianjin City, Tianhou Palace and imperial society, and display the bricks of Tianjin in Ming Dynasty, water transport models in Qing Dynasty, various folk wedding ceremonies, costumes, water machines and other cultural relics in Qing Dynasty. Throughout the architecture of Tianhou Palace, it has experienced various stages of renovation, overhaul and reconstruction, and formed its unique style.
