At the invitation of Weilai Automobile, I came to Hefei Weilai Factory to experience the static state of ET5. This is the second public appearance of ET5 since Chengdu Auto Show, and the highlight of this time is the experience of the interior, which was only seen through the glass before.

Let's start with the conclusion: the interior and configuration of ET5 can be called the ceiling of a 300,000-class vehicle.

Let me briefly talk about the appearance first. After all, there are many photos. I like this appearance very much, the proportion is just right, and the length of 4790mm is just right, so I can barely calculate the size of domestic B-class cars. Simple but beautiful, which actually tests the basic skills of designers. It is actually very difficult for a car to have recognition, beautiful proportion, beautiful lines and beautiful shape.

You can take a closer look at other models. Many of them tried to show the dynamics and fashion of this car with complicated lines, cool headlights, various prominent side skirts, air knives and complicated diffusers. And most of them are no different from the cottage style of Auto Parts City. Because a good design must be remembered at a glance, and all parts must be coordinated. The hidden part must be eye-catching, and the eye-catching place must be novel enough. At the same time, the body stretches and the lines are smooth. This design skill can't be achieved by just practicing for two or three years.

Old Marcel Dassault said: A plane that looks beautiful must be a good plane. Because the more aerodynamic the plane is, the more beautiful it is, which also applies to cars. The drag coefficient of ET5 is only 0.24Cd, which is larger than 0.208 Cd of ET7, but it is also an excellent performance. Needless to say, it is good for endurance and motivation. This can be seen from the bottom of ET5. The upturned duck tail and the bottom diffuser are not decorations. If you look down, you will find that the diffuser is quite long. At the same time, the flat chassis of the electric vehicle plays a very good role in the smooth airflow, so ET5 looks good.

Now get down to business, talk about interior decoration. Personally, I think the biggest problem of ET5 interior is sitting high. As a car with such strong power and a sports model, this sitting posture and vision are almost catching up with SUV. It's actually quite understandable. After all, electric cars are full of batteries and can't stick to the ground like oil cars. So why are most of the trams launched by many car companies SUVs? First, because the SUV has a wider audience and is easier to sell in China, and second, because there is enough space for use. Of course, as an SUV, it seems natural to promote high sitting posture and good vision.

In many sports cars, guns and racing cars, the role of low sitting posture is to improve the driver's confidence in cornering-the higher the seat, the more obvious the subjective roll feeling; Secondly, if the vehicle is light (racing car), the driver's weight in the whole vehicle will increase, and the lower he sits, the lower his center of gravity will be. Then, at ET5, the ratio of 2 tons of vehicle weight to driver's weight has little effect on vehicle dynamics. Secondly, due to the heavy weight of electric vehicles, the suspension bias frequency needs to be improved, so the roll is generally not large, and the center of gravity is basically concentrated on the battery below, and the impact is even smaller. So it is understandable that ET5 is biased, but I personally don't like it.

The second thing I don't like is that the seat doesn't have a strong sense of wrapping, especially the side supports. The seat is very wide, but the side can't support me, so I expect that if the speed is too fast, people may slide on the seat.

The last disadvantage is that the seat cushion in the back row has little or no support for the legs, and it is very flat, and the height of the floor is also there, so the most comfortable way is to put the legs down and roll them up. If the shape of the hatchback affects the height of the rear row, then the height of the rear seat cushion leaning forward does not affect the space in the Z direction. The only possible effect is that the rear seat cushion cannot be as flat as the trunk when it is put down, but what is the proportion of this scene in use? And what are the chances of sitting in the back row? I believe everyone has reached a conclusion.

Well, except for the shortcomings I found above (pure personal likes and dislikes), almost all other parts are advantages.

If a car wants to be luxurious, it is not as simple as stacking materials, otherwise everyone can do it. More important are collocation, details, sense of design, sense of isolation, sense of security and so on. Weilai didn't get nearly a million Model S from the beginning like Tesla, but it has models in the range of 300,000 to 600,000, so it's no exaggeration to say that it is a luxury brand, right? At present, ET5, as the cheapest car in Weilai, directly challenges 34C and Model 3 in terms of price and size. What are the commendable places and advantages of ET5 competing products?

1. Sense of isolation and security

Subjective sense of security comes more from isolation, which can be simply understood as the isolation ability of vehicles from the external environment. When I was a child, I often dreamed that I was in a small Tanqueray, or in a plane, completely isolated from the outside world, and I could go wherever I wanted. And why many kittens like to hide in boxes and corners, also for asylum, safety and isolation. People are like this, cars are like this. As long as I get on the bus, I hope all kinds of troubles in this world have nothing to do with me. Then this can only be given to you in a luxury brand that promotes "the car is another home".

ET5 adopts frameless door. In fact, I am worried that there will be wind noise when driving, and I can't drive this time, so I can't evaluate the dynamic NVH. I emphasize here that this time it is only static. On the day of the experience, there were stereos, noise from factory testing, noise from assembly, human voice and so on. As long as the door is closed, the isolation ability of ET5 is still quite good, and the external sound is wiped flat and basically inaudible. The photographer talked to me in the window, and I didn't feel anything until he knocked on my window.

There is also that sense of security. Imagine when you were a child, the storm outside the house was still thundering, and you were scared to death. At this time, mom came to hold you in her arms, cover your ears, comfort you and protect you. Soft, warm and quiet atmosphere, even if it is stormy outside, it is no longer afraid. The same is true of cars. The hug cockpit of ET5 is the same as that of mom. At the same time, it has excellent isolation, soft leather surface, soft lighting and comfortable heated seat. This kind of atmosphere can give people a very strong sense of security, which is one of the reasons why I like ET5 interior very much.

2. Details, collocation and sense of design

With the above two advantages, it is not necessarily luxurious, and the details are equally important. Luxury cars usually have many materials that can be matched with each other, but they must be the same color. Wear bloggers will also tell you that you can't wear more than three colors, otherwise you will look sloppy and spiritless, and the materials will involve modeling, assembly process, manufacturing difficulty, cost and feel. It needs engineers to balance it.

There are no more or less materials on ET5, and the whole instrument panel has 4 or 5 kinds from top to bottom, all of which have a good feel. Hard places are hard (water cup holder, center console and other places that may be scratched), and soft places are soft (handrails, dashboard and so on). ), and there are 9 color matching options. It is the same color as the car body, but every different material will use the same color system, including the metal logo on the steering wheel, because it is actually very simple to change the color of the coating material on the dashboard, but the metal needs special coloring, and there are many colors, so it is necessary to make corresponding supply chain preparations, and other car companies can actually do it. As long as the quantity is large enough, car companies are all fathers, but the cost is higher.

Another place that reflects the details, pay attention to the instrument of ET5 and the backboard of the central control display, and you will find that it is actually made of cast aluminum. Most cars, such as this hanging display, generally have a plastic back panel. After several years of drying, these places will be deformed to some extent and produce abnormal noise, even when they leave the factory.

ET5' s aluminum alloy backboard has high surface gloss, good hand feel and texture, and much stronger heat resistance and durability than plastic-you know, the cost of injection mold and aluminum casting mold is very different, and the requirements for heat resistance and structural strength of injection mold are not high, while the requirements for aluminum casting mold are higher, while the surface gloss and overall hand feel of ET5' s backboard are good.

The luxury car is luxurious because it can give you intimate details in places that you often can't see or touch.

The overall interior design of ET5 is simple and practical, just like ET7. What makes the interior of the vehicle glow most is the light, which diffracts the ambient light on the whole dashboard and armrest, forming a waterfall-like effect, which is very beautiful. At the same time, the cover of the stereo is made of materials with good light transmittance, which makes the whole interior give people a very warm and advanced enjoyment under dark conditions, just like walking into a comfortable and clean bar or luxury hotel room.

ET5 should be the car with the best interior assembly process and the highest compactness among the vehicles I have tested so far. The last one that surprised me was Polaris 2. The overall interior assembly process is quite good. Just shake the central control panel casually until the body is moving and no sound will be made, including the central armrest and instrument. I am the kind of person who is extremely strict with the assembly process of interior decoration and can't stand any abnormal noise when the car passes through the pit. I believe ET5 will meet my requirements if nothing happens.
