Why did Tao Yuanming want to be an official? Tell me what you think.

I think there are two main reasons:

1. Tao Yuanming’s great-grandfather may have been Tao Kan (there is still controversy, but the genetic relationship between the two is certain). Grandfather Meng Jia, a famous scholar in the Jin Dynasty, married Tao Kan's tenth daughter. My grandfather served as a prefect (there are two versions of my grandfather's name, either Dai or Mao), and my father was a man who "traveled to the past and was very happy", and his specific deeds are unknown. It can be seen from this that Tao Yuanming came from a distinguished background. During the Wei and Jin Dynasties, it was a social custom for aristocratic children to serve as officials, just like Wang Xizhi and his son. Therefore, Tao Yuanming is not exempt from vulgarity.

2. Confucianism regards "ruling the country and bringing peace to the world" as the highest ideal. Any Confucian disciple has the desire to become an official, and Tao Yuanming will do the same
