Is Nanhai Guanyin a man or a woman?
Guanyin, whose real name is Guanyin, is transliterated in Sanskrit as Anapo Lou Ji Diso or Apo Lou Ji Dishwaro. It is also called the four great bodhisattvas together with Manjusri Bodhisattva, Samantabhadra Bodhisattva and Tibetan Bodhisattva in China Han temples. In Buddhist scriptures, Guanyin is called the Great Compassion Bodhisattva. As long as all the suffering beings sincerely recite its name, Guanyin Bodhisattva will be freed from its voice immediately, and its name will come from it. According to legend, Guanyin was born on February 19th, Nirvana Day is September 19th, and Daoism Day is June 19th. These three days are important days for devout believers to burn incense and sacrifice. Guanyin is also called Guanyin, Guanzi and Guangshiyin. In Buddhism, he is the last bodhisattva under the seat of Amitabha, the leader of the western world. Together with the Great Bodhisattva, it is a threatening Bodhisattva around Amitabha.
Guanyin Bodhisattva is the most popular and widely believed among the people in China. The image of Guanyin Bodhisattva is also the most common among all kinds of Buddhist images or statues, with a wide variety and great changes. So Guanyin Bodhisattva is listed separately.
When all beings in the world encounter all kinds of difficulties and disasters, as long as they believe in Guanyin Bodhisattva and recite its name, they will "watch its voice" and come to the rescue, so that the suffering beings can immediately get out of trouble, so the name of this Bodhisattva is Guanyin.
There are many Buddhist classics about avalokitesvara, and the most popular one is avalokitesvara in Beijing Temple. This product shows the merit and ability of avalokitesvara bodhisattva to show mercy and save all beings. Therefore, this product was widely copied and became popular alone shortly after translation, and it was called Guanyin Bodhisattva Sutra.
Buddhism believes that Guanyin Bodhisattva is a great bodhisattva who helps the poor. In western Buddhist scriptures that promote the idea of pure land, such as the Infinite Life Sutra, it is also said that Guanyin Bodhisattva will unite with Amitabha to attract all sentient beings who wish to live in the West. Therefore, Guanyin belief is more easily accepted by people.
The belief in Guanyin Bodhisattva became popular in the society around the Jin Dynasty. During the Southern and Northern Dynasties, due to frequent wars and social unrest, the belief in Guanyin Bodhisattva, which claimed to be able to help the world and the poor, was increasingly welcomed by all walks of life. The Guanyin Sutra, which is devoted to preaching Guanyin Bodhisattva's mercy and salvation, has been widely circulated in the society, and some books have appeared, such as Xuan Yan Ji compiled by the Southern Song Dynasty, Guang Shi Ying Quan Ji compiled by Fu Liang and Ghost Sample Ji compiled by Qi Wang Tan.
Because the myths and legends about Guanyin Bodhisattva were in line with the people's desire to get rid of suffering and yearn for a happy and beautiful life at that time, the legend with compassion as the original wish made everyone feel intimate, and Guanyin belief developed rapidly among the people.
Among all kinds of Buddha statues in Buddhism, Guanyin has the most kinds, which is probably related to the saying that Guanyin has various incarnations. Generally speaking, as one of the "Three Saints of the West", when he accompanied the Amitabha statue in the general trend, Guanyin Bodhisattva wore a crown with the Amitabha statue on it. Other forms and costumes are not much different from other bodhisattvas. In the Buddhist temples in China, there are often statues of Guanyin Bodhisattva standing in the middle of the sea and above the head behind the main statue enshrined in the Ursa Mahayana Hall. This is based on the Buddhist scriptures and Guanyin Bodhisattva's view that the Dojo was founded in Luojiashan, Putuo, South China Sea. At this time, Guanyin Bodhisattva was mostly portrayed as an ancient lady in China, such as the Jade Buddha Temple in Shanghai and Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou.
Sometimes, next to the Guanyin statue, there is a little boy statue. The boy put his hands together and faced Guanyin Bodhisattva. This is the so-called "boy worships Guanyin". Is this based on Hua Yan Jing? According to the book "Entering the Dharma", the boy who was good at money was instructed by Manjusri Bodhisattva to worship fifty-three "good knowledge" successively, of which the twenty-seventh was created by the story of Yin Bodhisattva. This image is very popular among the people of China.
Tantric classics often associate some secret spells (Dalagni) with Guanyin Bodhisattva, and also stipulate the corresponding rituals when reciting these secret spells and the specific images of Guanyin Bodhisattva to be worshipped, thus resulting in the so-called Six Guanyin and Seven Guanyin. Among these avalokitesvara bodhisattvas, the main ones are Matou avalokitesvara (that is, Wang Ming of Matou), Avalokitesvara with a thousand hands, Avalokitesvara with eleven faces, Avalokitesvara with an empty life, Avalokitesvara Zhunti and Avalokitesvara with a wishful wheel. These avalokitesvara bodhisattvas are all incarnations of the holy avalokitesvara (or Zhengguanyin).
In the long-term spread of China, the statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva has undergone various changes, and the people in China have shaped many rich people according to their own wishes and preferences ... >; & gt
Question 2: Was the Guanyin Bodhisattva in Nanhai changed by a man? Or has a woman changed? Guanyin bodhisattva, there is no phasing! Being a man for a woman is the same, to save all beings!
Question 3: Is Nanhai Guanyin a man or a woman? The Guanyin method or portrait we see now is very inconsistent. Some people dress like men, while others dress like women, which raises this question. According to the secular view, everyone thinks she is female, so many people will call her Guanyin! However, according to Hu Shilin's pen collection and Wang Fengzhou's Biography of Guanyin, Guanyin Bodhisattva is called a male body, which is well-founded. On the other hand, according to the records in Northern History, what Xu Zicai saw in his illness and the Guanyin Bodhisattva in Wu Chengdi's dream in Northern Qi Dynasty were all changed by beautiful women, so this problem is not easy to solve. But according to the story of Guanyin, this problem is not difficult to solve. Because avalokitesvara sympathizes with all sentient beings and cares for all sentient beings with her fate, she has been incarnated for 33 times and touched all sentient beings everywhere. There are different statues of Zhuang Yan everywhere: either she became a disciple of the bodhisattva, or she became an official to kill jade, or she became a dragon ghost, which changed with time and place to facilitate her touch and work. Therefore, the treasures of avalokitesvara are seen by the world regardless of gender, age and age. This is not my nonsense, these deeds are clearly recorded in the written conversation of the ice department. At this point, the problem of Guanyin's male and female body can be put aside. Second, there is only one Guanyin Bodhisattva. Why are there so many different names? Guanyin in White, Guanyin in Gaowang, Guanyin in Songzi and Guanyin in Fish Basket have different names. Are these Guanyin bodhisattvas with different names in the purple bamboo forest in Luojiashan, Putuo, South China Sea the same Guanyin bodhisattva? Or are there other different avalokitesvara bodhisattvas? In this respect, I dare say it's because the original works were adapted in different ways. For example, his old man incarnated a beautiful woman in this place, dressed in white, trying to enlighten all beings. When people arrived, they realized that this beautiful woman in white was the incarnation of Bodhisattva, and naturally they followed the method they saw, so later generations had Guanyin in white. Because of the harmful fish in the East China Sea, the seaside residents can't live and work in peace and contentment, so Guanyin Bodhisattva became a fisherman and went to Aotou to save all beings, so there was the practice of Aotou Guanyin. The rest of the treasures were also left when they were reborn. If future generations don't comply, all kinds of incidental meetings will happen. This is not writing nonsense. You don't believe me. Before telling the story formally, I will tell a story about Guanyin Bodhisattva as an introduction to prove the above remarks. I'm not talking about Guanyin treasures in other places now. I'm talking about the Guanyin method in Shaolin Temple, which is different. It is shaped like a huge nose, with big eyes, a wide mouth and a wide forehead. It has loose hair on the top of its head, two ears growing up, a pair of thick and big gold rings hanging over its shoulders, and the creases of its clothes are messy and untidy, with a pair of big feet exposed and a Huang Jinbao cane in its hand. This statue is like a maharaja in 500 arhats, and no one will regard him as a Guanyin scholar. However, Shaolin Temple clearly worships him in Guanyin Pavilion, and monks also think Guanyin Bodhisattva. Isn't that weird? But the Guanyin method in Shaolin Temple makes it like this, and there are stories in the middle, which I will tell you slowly. Shaolin Temple, originally a big jungle in China, has a long history. Since the founder of Dharma Zen Master started the mountain, he has not only spread Zen widely, but also been famous for his martial arts. However, when it was first built, there was no Guanyin Pavilion. Until the Yuan Dynasty, the Red Army made an insurrection and the war disaster spread to Zhongzhou. Li Quan, the leader of the Red Army, already knows the martial arts of Shaolin Temple. If he wants to attract the monks in the temple, he will take it for himself. Unexpectedly, the monks in Shaolin Temple are all people who strictly abide by the precepts and deeply understand the righteousness and refuse to follow them. As a result, Li Quan became angry from embarrassment and led everyone to besiege Shaoshi Mountain, claiming that he would not stop until Shaolin Temple was destroyed. At that time, although Shaolin monks were skilled in martial arts, they were outnumbered and invincible, trying their best to defend themselves, and then they gradually became exhausted. At the critical moment, suddenly a headstrong monk came out, holding an iron bar and grabbing at the Red Army. When everyone saw it, it was the new monk who hung up the bill. I saw his staff rising like a flurry, cold and cold, killing the Red Army horses. Even the iron gun headed by him, Li Quan, was defeated and led the people away. At that time, everyone felt that the golden light flashed in front of them and they lost their position as reckless monks. They looked around and saw him standing in the Royal Village of Songshan Mountain, revealing his six dharma bodies, claiming to be the incarnation of Master Guanyin, the king of Kinnara, in order to ease the situation. So Shaolin Temple shaped this statue according to its apocalyptic treasure, and built Guanyin Pavilion as a support. This incident is also clearly recorded in the log of Shaolin Temple, so it is not fiction. I also know that avalokitesvara has all kinds of treasures, and is a relic of manifestation.
Question 4: Is Guanyin a man or a woman? To put it simply: Which Guanyin Bodhisattva circulated among the people is a person from Journey to the West.
Buddhism is profound and diverse.
If there is a Buddha, you will be enlightened, that is, the realm.
In the eyes of the Buddha, there is no distinction between men and women. Because all beings are equal.
My understanding is that you can regard Guanyin as a woman or a man. As long as you have a sincere heart, nothing else will happen.
Question 5: Is Nanhai Guanyin a man or a woman? Avalokitesvara is a male. Dharmaksema in Liu Song's translation of The Chinese Sorrow Sutra, Volume II, Da Shi Pin believes that Avalokitesvara was a prince before becoming a bodhisattva: "When Wang Qian was a son, the first emperor said no, and finally he supported the Tathagata and monks in March." No, Guanyin. Together with his younger brother Nemo, he converted to Buddhism with his father. He moves faster than Alice wants. Guanyin Bodhisattva is also called Guanzi and Guanyin. The sea of suffering is boundless, and all beings suffer from ignorance, resulting in many troubles. Avalokitesvara is to observe carefully and deeply, looking for the cry for help of all the sufferings in the world. When all sentient beings in the world encounter disasters, as long as they sincerely call the name of Avalokitesvara, "Bodhisattva immediately watches its voice", Avalokitesvara will answer and save the caller from suffering. The name Guanyin came from this. The origin of "Guanyin" is because it avoids the name of Emperor Taizong Li Shimin, so it omits the word "tianxia" and is abbreviated as "Guanyin". Guanyin, the full name of Guanyin, is a free translation of avalokitesvara, a Sanskrit avalokitesvara bodhisattva, and also translated into the sound of light, comfortable view of the world, comfortable view of the world, Guanyin sound and so on. It is also called Save the Bodhisattva, Lotus Hand Bodhisattva and Master Tong Yuan. "Guanyin" means that as long as all the victims in the world recite the name of the Bodhisattva wholeheartedly, the Bodhisattva will listen to its voice in time and come to the rescue. Guanyin Bodhisattva was introduced to China in Wei and Jin Dynasties, and became more and more popular with the prevalence of Pure Land Sect in Wei and Jin Dynasties. China people accepted the Indian Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, but they did not copy them all, but transformed them into China Bodhisattvas. With the development of Buddhism in China, the image of Guanyin in India has gradually changed a lot. This change is that in the early days of Guanyin's entry into China, Guanyin still sat high in the Buddhist temple in the image of a "gentleman" male bodhisattva. Early Guanyin statues in China, such as murals in Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, Gansu and wood carvings in the Southern and Northern Dynasties, all appeared as men with two moustaches on their lips. Later, especially after the Tang and Song Dynasties, Guanyin completely became a female bodhisattva, which was very beautiful and charming. Buddhism's transformation of Guanyin in China is manifested in the fabrication of a new life story of Guanyin Bodhisattva, that is, the widely circulated saying that Guanyin is a wonderful princess. The Indian male Guanyin became the third princess of King Miao Zhuang in the Western Regions. This theory about the life experience of female Guanyin was first seen in Zhu Bian's Old News of Quyi in Song Dynasty. Later, Guan Daosheng's Biography of Guanyin Bodhisattva became a complete biography. On this basis, a large number of Guanyin story books have come out one after another, such as Xiangshan Baojuan, The Complete Biography of Guanyin in the South China Sea and The Way of Guanyin. These Guanyin stories spread widely and were deeply rooted in people's hearts, so that the female Guanyin bodhisattva made in China completely replaced the "authentic" male Guanyin bodhisattva in Indian Buddhist scriptures.
Question 6: What is the relationship between Nanhai Guanyin and Guanyin? Brother, Dade has already talked about it downstairs. Let me add one more point. Guanyin Bodhisattva is an ancient Buddha, and the figures are correct and clear. Because of his compassion for all sentient beings, he turned to become a bodhisattva, crossing all sentient beings and freeing him from suffering. The relationship between all beings in this world and avalokitesvara is great. Guanyin bodhisattva followed the sound to save suffering, and with the karma of different sentient beings, different bodies appeared. Guanyin in the South China Sea is one of the ever-changing gestures.
Guanyin Bodhisattva and Tibetan Bodhisattva, together with Sakyamuni Buddha, are regarded as the three saints of Bodhisattva.
Guanyin Bodhisattva is also the companion bodhisattva of Amitabha in the western paradise. After Amitabha's nirvana, Buddhism became a Buddha when it was about to die. The Buddha's name is Puguang Gongde Mountain King Buddha!
Question 7: The original name of Guanyin Bodhisattva in Nanhai was a man named Ci Channel, and later she became a female bodhisattva in Buddhism. There is a history here. According to legend, after the benevolent channel people sealed the gods, they traveled all over the world and all walks of life came out. One day, he vaguely heard a cry of sadness coming from the clouds. Looking down, a woman was lying on a remote mountain road, clutching her stomach with her hands, in agony. He knew that this woman was going through a difficult labor and wanted to come down to earth to relieve her pain. I can think about it. I am not a woman. If the baby is a woman, one is afraid of the shock and suspicion of the woman, and the other is afraid of passers-by jokes. But if we avoid it and miss the opportunity, the lives of mother and son will be hard to protect. Then he thought of a plan and said, "Why don't I do this?" In an instant, I swept away the dust on my body and turned into a beautiful woman in Boston, holding a brush and holding a cloud head, coming towards the woman. Seeing that the woman was unconscious, she took out a pill and nectar and poured it into her mouth. Soon, the woman gave birth to a fetus. The woman woke up and saw a beautiful woman give birth to her. She got up and bowed down to the ground and said, "Girl, thank you for saving my mother and son's life. You are so kind and generous that you will never forget it! Dare to ask where my aunt lives? " "You're welcome," said Cihangdao with a smile. This is the duty of monks. I am Guanyin and live in the South China Sea. " With that, she drove Yun Fei away, and the woman thanked Tian for kowtowing. The woman came home with her child in her arms and told her husband about Lu Yu's life-saving. The husband was very grateful, so he asked the sculptor to carve a fairy Buddha statue called "Watching the Sword Buddha" and put it in the main hall for worship. Knowing this, people on Cihang Island often appear here to bless all beings. Since then, people have regarded Cihang's worldview as a female Buddha. Guanyin is in Taoist legend-Ci Taoists all say that Ci Taoists are strangers, so it is no stranger to talk about Guanyin. Everyone knows that avalokitesvara is the avalokitesvara with great compassion. Do you know that Guanyin Bodhisattva is the embodiment of Cihang, which is Guanyin for Cihang? Therefore, Taoism respects kindness and navigation, while Buddhism respects Guanyin. Because Guanyin's life is aimed at helping all sentient beings, helping them in every disaster and turning difficulties into difficulties, everyone respects Guanyin wherever he goes. People who are benevolent learn the Tao first, and then enter the Buddha. Looks like a little girl, small and exquisite, oval face, arch eyebrows, double eyelids, phoenix eyes and cherry mouth. Poetry proof: Feng Genmei is long and expensive, and her shadow is clear and fragrant. She is smart, intelligent and free from vulgarity, and vows to live for life. Cherry's mouth is rouge, her teeth are as white as jade and slender wicker, and her smile is clear and smooth as lotus. She is smart and outstanding. Cihang studied hard since childhood and read widely, knowing not only the classics but also the medical way. But everyone thinks he looks like a daughter and has a tender face. In the past, people had to be big and strong to support their families. Sometimes neighbors will insult him and scold him that men look like women, and feng shui at home is buried behind. Cihang thought, if it is impossible to develop Buddhism among men, if there is a way to spread Buddhism among leisure women. In this way, she became a beautiful girl who preached Buddhism among the people and taught all beings kindness. Later, Buddhism turned Cihang into the highest model figure of Buddhism and Taoism. So Guanyin practiced seven feet or a big board foot. Yin Yin Bodhisattva has the following evolution. Wang Wang, * * * Miao Shanniang, the father wants to recruit a female professional, and the female xiu does not marry Lang. It's forbidden to send it to the garden, but it looks good. The messenger of Baique Temple, with the help of the gods. When the soldiers left to burn down the building, the elves thanked God. Go upstairs to persuade, but never surrender. Take him to the altar, he will hide behind the tiger. The soul goes to hell, and the ten halls shine. Because of liberation, Xiangshan was returned to Sun. After nine years of practice, you have a strong moral integrity. His father's illness left his hands and eyes and he recovered as usual. Only when wenwu entered the mountain did he know that he was injured. A Buddhist family is happy in the west.
Question 8: Before Guanyin in Nanhai, Guanyin Bodhisattva was a male in Buddhism, but she always saved suffering and showed great compassion to all sentient beings. Is it true that people worshipped her as a loving female incarnation? You can install a lucky star on your mobile phone to make a wish, in which many gods such as Guanyin Bodhisattva are invited. The method is sacred and solemn, and can be carried around at ordinary times, which can not only protect the body and protect the heart, but also pray devoutly from time to time, which is very convenient and effective!
Question 9: The legend of Guanyin in the South China Sea was introduced into China and Qi Fengshan, which became the mainstream in the history of Sino-foreign relations. The spread of China's four great inventions and the introduction of the three major religions in the world are all the results of openness and exchanges. Buddhism was introduced into China in the late Western Han Dynasty. Buddhist culture has a profound influence on China and the world! Among the bodhisattvas worshipped by Buddhism, the most famous one is Guanyin, the venerable one. Guanyin is a free translation of ancient Indian Sanskrit, transliteration: Apolo Guido Shepolo. She was a Mahayana Buddhist bodhisattva who came to settle in China with merchants and monks on the Silk Road in the Western Han Dynasty. According to Zhu Fahu's translation of The Lotus Sutra? Guanyin Bodhisattva's Pumenpin says that Guanyin Bodhisattva can use vision instead of hearing and ears instead of eyes. When all beings in the world are killed and call for help, the Bodhisattva can immediately "watch" their voices to rescue them, hence the name "Guanyin Bodhisattva". Later, in order to avoid the taboo of Emperor Taizong and Li Shimin, it was called "Guanyin", which is still in use today. Buddha Sakyamuni said that avalokitesvara became a Buddha as early as in the past, calling it "Tathagata". In order to realize all sentient beings with all bodhisattvas, I am still a bodhisattva. Guanyin Bodhisattva is a household name in China, and is well known to all women and children. Guanyin wears a crown, a wreath, a bare chest and bare arms, and a brocade, with flowing eyes and a beautiful face. She walked on the lotus platform with a net bottle in her left hand and a willow branch in her right hand. She is the elegant Venus of China! Ordinary people say, "The 18th National Congress changed the face of Guanyin." This shows its youthful charm! Guanyin Bodhisattva was originally a man when she first came to China. Guanyin also has two moustaches in Dunhuang murals. Guanyin, now in the Tang Dynasty silk book "Guide to Bodhisattva" in the British Museum in London, England, is a man with a beard on his mouth. Some Buddhist scriptures say that Guanyin was originally the "wheel king" of the ancient Tianzhu country (now India) and was a good man. According to the Buddhist Shurangama Sutra, Guanyin Bodhisattva can show thirty-two responses. As for whether it is male or female, it shows different reactions according to needs. It is also said in the Shurangama Sutra that Guanyin Bodhisattva can become thirty-three. These 33 incarnations are all standing, lying or sitting, moving or static, which can be described as different shapes. The Great Rani Sutra of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva with Thousand Hands and Thousand Eyes says that Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva wants to be universal and detached from the world, so she has thousands of hands and thousands of eyes, asking for help and suffering, so as to achieve a thousand things. Since Guanyin Bodhisattva can save the suffering, benefit all beings and be kind and amiable, then the ideal Guanyin Bodhisattva should be a mother and a woman! Young mothers are certainly more beautiful, amiable, lovely and idealistic than old mothers! So later Guanyin Bodhisattva appeared as the incarnation of the goddess. The early Guanyin statue has a western charm, with long eyebrows, deep eyes and high nose. Guanyin in the Northern Wei Dynasty had a beautiful face, and Guanyin in the Sui and Tang Dynasties was plump. In the Song Dynasty, Guanyin's phoenix eyes, eyebrows and temples, jade face with natural joy, a little red lips, and a natural and elegant expression. Guanyin Bodhisattva did not form outstanding characteristics in Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. The change of Buddhist style is also the change of aesthetic level of the times. Guanyin belief transcends the category of Buddhism and has the color of folk culture.
Question 10: Nanhai Guanyin and Thousand Hands Guanyin. Are they alone? Guanyin can be divided into local Guanyin and Buddhist Guanyin. Buddhist Guanyin is a man, and local Guanyin is a folk legend. She is a little girl who accumulated virtue on earth and fell in love with Wei Tuo. Avalokitesvara belongs to Buddhism, and Nanhai Guanyin is local, so it can be said that it is not human.
