Why do Americans have no obligation to support their parents, while China does?

In the United States, there is no national law requiring children to support the elderly. Even though there are laws in 30 of all 50 states that require children to support their elderly parents when they can't take care of themselves, this law is almost never implemented. The idea that the state government forces children to pay for parents who have no money has received little social and political support. In the concept of many traditional families in China, the son is the continuation of the family incense, and parents are obsessed with having a son to raise their children for old age.
