Most of Tang Xin's representative works are included in his poetry collection Running in the Rain (Qinghai People's Publishing House, 1997, 1). There are 124 poems, ranging from 1984 to 1997. It is one of the few good poems published in recent years. Some of these poems have been included in selected books and dictionaries such as Centennial Classics of China Literature and Selected Poems of Tianya in 1990s edited by Xie Mian.
Born into an intellectual family, Tang Xin loved foreign literature since childhood and was familiar with European and American philosophy and literature.
This good cultural education made him get rid of the fetters of conformity very early. For example, in the late 1990s, there was a "Tibet fever" in China's poetry circles, and poets scrambled to write about Tibet and "worship" the snowy plateau. However, under the same theme, Tang Xin is refreshing, such as Tibet and Cooperation. In his poems, he frankly wrote about the inaccessibility of Tibet and his own yearning. He said, "Don't tell me Tibet/I'm dizzy", so that when he arrived in Gannan, he couldn't help asking, "The cold wind on the plateau makes me unstable/can I find religion or the way home?" This unconventional creative path is the real way of writing.
Tang Xin's cultural accomplishment and lonely personality make him indifferent to the secular world, and sometimes even hostile and don't go with the flow. For example, in his poems: "A tramp wearing worn-out shoes/a garbage collector pretending to be Baudelaire/squints at everyone", "I am like a strange thief/walking among drunkards in southern Jiangxi", "Maybe I should roar/maybe I should sneer", "Maybe I should lie down and have a good sleep", "I can despise you/but I can't beat you" and so on. The poet Ma Fei said that perhaps we can define Tang Xin's creative attitude as looking on coldly and going its own way, which is more accurate. His masterpiece "China's Highest Love Style" is about an old couple who have been fruitless for 60 years. This poem is very beautiful and touching. At the end of the poem, he said, "It's still snowing outside. It's snowing heavily/covering the roof, covering the road, covering the whole world/the once-in-60-year heavy snow." This is really atmospheric writing. I often think of this poem so far, and I am very moved when I think of it.
Individualized writing is the second characteristic of Tang Xin's poems. Tang Xin is confident, and this confidence goes deep into the bone marrow. Therefore, in his poems, he often appears in the image of self-mockery and even self-abuse, calling himself a "thief" and a "rogue". This lyric perspective makes his poetry writing has nothing to do with grand lyricism, and is more suitable for writing personal feelings, which can often impress readers. Such as: Doudou's first salary, the incident of the unknown poet Xiao Liu, I spent the autumn alone, and I walked with my girlfriend after the earthquake. However, being too obsessed with personal writing, even personal writing, divorced from the times and society, will make poetry creation a monologue. Wang Binbin said that not all personal experiences are valuable; Xie Mian also believes that important poets must be closely related to the times and be able to reflect the aesthetic fashion of that era through their own poems. Tang Xin's poetry creation still has some shortcomings in this respect.
The material expression or external feature of personalized writing is oral writing. Although Tang Xin likes to quote classical poems in his poems, on the whole, oral writing is dominant. Oral writing makes his poems natural, simple and easy to communicate with readers. But on the surface, it is not easy to reveal the deep thinking about life and the world. If oral writing is not well controlled, it is easy to be glib or low-level desire to vent, and even become a saliva poem. Tang Xin's early poems are simple in speech and profound in meaning, and there are images in the images, which are a symbol and hint of the whole. However, the plots and prose brought by colloquialism make some poems have poor jumping in time and space, and the language lacks certain tension. And as far as the complete works are concerned, the style of poetry seems monotonous and the subject matter is narrow. Recently, there is a phenomenon that poetry is more greasy and less poetic. Perhaps this is an inevitable phenomenon of personalized (or private) writing. I think on the basis of personalization, do we need the personalization of poetry more, or the height of one person?
