The first publication of the novel Yueyue Novel

On November 1, 1906, the monthly literary magazine "Yueyue Novel" was first published in Shanghai. The journal was successively edited by Wang Weinong, Wu Jianren, Xu Fumin, and Zhou Guisheng. Chen Lengxue and Bao Tianxiao participated in the editing. It was published by Qunle Bookstore and Qunxue Society.

The magazine aims to improve society and enlighten people's wisdom. It mainly publishes historical novels, romance novels and foreign novels. It also publishes essays, operas and poems. It focuses on exposing social ills and advocating the improvement of social morality.

But in fact, most of the content published in "Yueyue Novels" describes talented people or romantic romances, which is the forerunner of the Mandarin Duck and Butterfly School. Among the more famous ones is Wu Jianren's "The Ashes of the Tribulation" "Yueyue Novel", "Secrets of Getting Rich" and the foreign historical novel "A History of American Independence" and other "Yueyue Novels" successively published 24 issues, and ceased publication in January 1909.
