Brief introduction of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture

Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture is a minority autonomous prefecture under the jurisdiction of Jilin Province, China, which is usually referred to as Yanbian Prefecture or Yanbian. Yanbian is the birthplace of Manchu and its ancestor Su Shen, and the land of Longxing in Qing Dynasty. Yanbian (1) is located on the border between China and North Korea in the east of Jilin Province, with Yanji as its capital, with an area of 43,474 square kilometers and a population of about 2170,000 (20 10), and it is the largest gathering place of Korean people in China. At present, the Han nationality accounts for more than half of the total population of Yanbian Prefecture, reaching 59%; Korean people account for about 39%. Yanbian has been the sacred territory of China since ancient times, and its place name originated from Yanji. In the Ming Dynasty, people called Yanji Ji Ye, which means goat in Jurchen language. One said that because this place is a basin, it has been shrouded in smoke for many years, so it is called the smoke-gathering hillock. Yanji is the homonym of collecting cigarettes. Many appellations were used in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, such as Yanbian and Yanji. Later, Yanbian was gradually used. Geography of Jilin, published by 19 13, records the traffic in the mainland, and the southeast side is once again the rush of Yanbian. 1920 or so, the word Yanbian appeared. Because it is located at the junction of the three countries and under the jurisdiction of Yanji Frontier Defense Office, it is called Yanbian. The Ethnography of China published by 1929 clearly records that the northeast frontier is called Yanbian. Yanbian is the frontier of Yanji Road in Jilin.
