Some stories of Li Zhenzhong, "King Tota Li Tian"

In China basketball more than half a century ago, there was a legendary star who was called "King Tota Li Tian" and his reputation was in full swing. This is Li Zhenzhong. His life can be said to be full of peaches and plums, and I am fortunate to be one of his many students.

I remember1September 1964, I was admitted to the "Second National Basketball Teacher Training Course for College Students of Shanghai Institute of Physical Education" with dozens of inexperienced students such as Cui Shoushi, Yu Kuikang, Liu Junting, Zhai, Yan Huang, Zhou, Zhou, Qian (female). We were really happy when we heard that Li Zhenzhong, a famous teacher, would be our teacher, and the college also arranged for Mr. Gu Yunfeng, who came back from the Soviet Union, to be our teaching assistant! Although we haven't been studying at school for a long time, we are deeply grateful to the two teachers for their earnest instruction, rigorous scholarship and careful cultivation.

Because of his age, Mr. Li Lao mainly teaches theoretical courses, while Mr. Gu Yunfeng is responsible for the teaching and training of practical courses. I remember that Mr. Gu often came to our dormitory to read newspapers during his lunch break and often told the story of Miss Li. Two things impressed me the most:

For example, the origin of "Liang Hua Five Tigers". Li Zhenzhong, a native of Tianjin, started playing at the age of 14. At that time, he played basketball in China for more than 20 years, during which there were many legendary stories, which were relished by fans.

1933, Li Zhenzhong joined the Tianjin Liang Hua Basketball Team, which won the Tianjin World Basketball Championship that year. At that time, it was also called "Five Tiger Generals" with Yin Hongxiang, Liu Zhenyuan, Zhang, Tang and others.

There is also the origin of "King Tota Li Tian". Li Zhenzhong is 1.89 meters tall, and his jumping ability is particularly prominent when playing. 1936, the national sports college basketball team went to southeast Asia to play. At that time, there was no dunk in the basketball game, so Li Zhenzhong often threw the ball into the basket with the ball in his hand when he received the pass from Tang Baojian. This action fascinated the audience, hence the nickname "King Tota Li Tian".

Teacher Li is very keen on the teaching of "National Basketball Teacher Training Course", and his curriculum arrangement embodies the characteristics of "comprehensiveness, systematicness, scientificity and innovation". I remember that every morning there are basic theories such as sports theory, training, statistics, operational research, sports physiology and anatomy, as well as theoretical courses for basketball majors. In the afternoon, Mr. Gu introduced a set of basketball teaching and training theory and practice guided by "Soviet Zangev System Theory". These arrangements make us feel novel and practical. I'm glad you came.

The two teachers are very dedicated and strict, such as roll call in class, going out for leave, and everything is strictly implemented in accordance with the school management regulations. In particular, the homework assigned by Teacher Li will be criticized in class if it is handed in late or not carefully done. When we recall all this, they are examples for us to learn, and they also make us understand the profound philosophy of "being a teacher, teaching and educating people, being strict with ourselves and cultivating excellent students".

At that time, our class was insignificant among many departments and classes in Shanghai Institute of Physical Education, because only Yu Kuikang, Liu Junting, Cui Shoushi, Zhai and I were playing basketball, and the others were physical education teachers in ordinary universities. We are uneven in height and different in technical level, so we didn't even meet the team at the beginning of the teaching competition. Under the education and training of Li Zhenzhong and Gu Yunfeng, all our classmates worked hard, and we finally won the famous basketball team of the Sports Department. Since then, our reputation has been greatly improved. Every week, many teams inside and outside the school, such as military and university teams, invite us to play games. The school team of East China Normal University, where Huang Bailing, a famous Shanghai teacher, is located, invited us to play games three times.

After graduation, I returned to Hunan Normal University. My teaching and training work is handy, and my scientific research work is gradually deepening, which has been well received by students and colleagues. I sincerely thank Shanghai Institute of Physical Education, Mr. Li Zhenzhong and Mr. Gu Yunfeng for their cultivation.

In the early 1990s, I was seconded to the State Sports Commission and the Chinese Basketball Association. I have been traveling at home and abroad for a long time, so I have little time to calm down and visit my teacher. I'm ashamed. In 2002, during the "Asian Basketball Championship" held in Shanghai, I visited Mr. Li of Shanghai Normal University under the leadership of Yang, and I was taught by his old man again. When many disciples celebrated Mr. Li's 80th and 90th birthdays, I was working abroad and couldn't come to Shanghai to celebrate his birthday in person. I feel deeply guilty. I have to call my brother Tianfa Zhong and give him my cordial greetings. I wish my tutor Professor Li Zhenzhong a long and healthy life!
