My grandfather is a painter.

1949, grandpa, who just graduated from Changsha Chinese Art School, joined the revolutionary propaganda team, and used his paintings to draw various posters such as "reducing rent and opposing hegemony" and "returning to the land".

1952, grandpa was transferred to the newspaper office. For decades, grandpa has traveled all over the country with rich creations, which can be said to be "paintings and the like".

Grandpa's paintings are not only well-known in China. Last year, Hong Kong Ta Kung Pao published three full-page sketches of Grandpa's travels, Miao Village scenery paintings in western Hunan and Three Gorges scenery paintings, which also had strong repercussions overseas.

My grandfather made a lot of jokes when he was on a business trip, because he just wanted to paint.

Once, grandpa went to Gezhouba to sketch and lived in a small shop near the dam. The house was full, so grandpa had to sleep on a makeshift cold plate. In the middle of the night, the security personnel woke him up and looked at his wrinkled clothes and a pair of worn rubber shoes. The security personnel were full of doubts and questioned him closely. It was not until Grandpa took out his press card that the security personnel inexplicably asked, "Why don't you stay in a hotel?" "It's close to the dam, so it's easy to sketch." Grandpa said flatly.

On another occasion, grandpa went to a remote hut to sketch, climb mountains and paint all day, and returned to the store hungry and thirsty. But the waiter brought me a meal. Grandpa swallowed it to cope with his stomach. The story behind is that grandpa has diarrhea for three days. From then on, whenever grandpa went on a business trip, grandma always brought him antidiarrheal drugs.

Now, grandpa has retired. But he never stops, writing and drawing all day, which is busier than the last 8-hour class. Recently, Grandpa is going to co-write the book Tourism in China with Professor of Geography (Chinese American) of the University of Pittsburgh.

For decades, grandpa has devoted his love for art, the magnificent mountains and rivers of the motherland and life to painting. I admire grandpa's simplicity, diligence and willingness to endure hardships. I am determined to learn from my grandfather and become an accomplished "female painter" like him in the future!
