What does Pinocchio's lie mean?

The title of this story is Pinocchio's Lie. Pinocchio is a character in the domestic animation "One Hundred Thousand Jokes".

If you lie, your nose will grow longer; if you tell the truth, your nose will shorten. Because the characteristics of his nose were laughed at, he vowed to destroy the earth, but gave up the idea after meeting Snow White. After marrying Snow White, his magic nose became even more perfect and he could retract it freely! The original character is from "Pinocchio".

The work tells that when the benevolent carpenter Pipano was sleeping, he dreamed that a blue angel gave life to his most beloved puppet, Pinocchio, and the little puppet began his adventure. If he is to become a real boy, he must pass the tests of courage, loyalty, and honesty.

Creative background

Collodi originally wrote "The Story of a Puppet" (renamed "Pinocchio" in the second year of serialization) It was to repay debts. He even mentioned this in a postscript to Ferdinando Martini, the president of Children’s Daily: “The materials I sent you are just childish and ridiculous little things. It’s just a gadget.

You can deal with it as you like. If you want to use it, I can continue writing.” What I didn’t expect was that “this childish and ridiculous gadget” aroused great interest from readers. It was serialized in installments in "Children's News" starting from July 7, 1881, and was not completed until 1883. Collodi once wanted to stop serializing, but was inundated with "dissatisfied" letters from readers.
