Zhang Bingyu believes that Laozi's career began after he and Guan Lingyin closed the Tao Te Ching together. In his later years, Lao Tzu settled in Lintao, Gansu, and practiced health. After gaining the Tao, he "soared" on Lintao Transcendental Platform.

Yan Tao said that Yuelu Mountain in Lintao County still retains some relics related to Laozi, such as "Transcendental Platform", "Lecture Platform", "cornice" and "Wenfeng Tower" (also known as "Pen Tower", which is said to be the place where Laozi wrote scriptures and inserted pens).

After Laozi took off in Lintao, his descendants flourished here. The Genealogy compiled by Emperor Taizong said: "Li sees thirteen things, and Longxi is the first." Later generations, all Li people in the world called Lao Zi "the ancestor of Taishang".

According to two scholars' research, it was only after Laozi went to Gansu to settle down in the west that "the world's Li family went out of Longxi" appeared, which could break the Li family's pulse, and its root was Laozi's Li family's pulse. Nowadays, every year, a large number of descendants of Li at home and abroad go to Longxitang in Lintao, Gansu Province to seek roots and worship their ancestors.
