About the hardware configuration and software optimization for the operation of The Elder 4 (experience discussion and personal continuous testing and updating)
Brother, I have been playing The Elder 4 for almost 3 years, and I bought a new one in 2007. The machine has been using MOD crazily since the kernel patch came out.
After I started using FCOM+OOO+OWC a few months ago, I felt a certain degree of lag, but it was still acceptable. It's just that the good times didn't last long. Since the creation of the Resident Evil Cult the day before yesterday, I have felt that the machine is obviously struggling and has become a slide during battle. I have tried various methods (such as installing Streamline, changing INI, and installing various patches), but I feel that the effect is not very effective. After repeated testing, it was found that the problem occurred on the CPU. If the CPU is not upgraded, the effect of software optimization will always be limited. Therefore, when installing MOD to expand The Elder 4, you must do what you can, and don’t force it, let alone fall into the misunderstanding that software optimization is omnipotent. The above are some of my lessons. I hope it will be of some help to the newbie brothers. I also hope that all brothers can discuss and share their experiences with everyone, especially the newbies. After all, everyone comes out of the newcomer stage step by step.
Attachment 1: Brother, among the MODs I am currently using, the most resource-hungry ones are: 1. FCOM 2, OOO 3, OWC 4. Increase the number of guards by 8 (it seems that there are constant imperial cavalry and reconnaissance in the wild. Soldiers are patrolling back and forth) 5. Add city-type NPCs 7. Add wild NPCs (the above two will make the ancient world full of people, including NPCs in caves to fight for monsters with you) Zombie siege 8, zombies in the Imperial City 9 , Zombie castle (it seems that zombies appear in every district of the imperial capital) 10. Enhance zombie abilities 11. Increase zombie types 12. Zombie nomadic attacks 13. Zombie massacre (will cause the spread of zombie viruses and cause the number of zombies to continue to increase) 14. Zombie village 15. Zombie City 16. 3 unknown zombie MODs (due to the similarity in functions of the above zombie series MODs, zombies are everywhere in the empire, whether in the city, in the wild, in the palace, or in the caves, plus FCOM+00 OWC and several MODs that add NPCs in the city and the wild and add guards, you will find that the ancient world has completely changed, becoming a chaotic world where battles are everywhere and happen all the time, and it is very similar to Resident Evil) 17. Urban beautification MOD 18, DeadlyReflex series 19, recruitment of any NPC (mainly not to recruit too many), of course, if only a few of them are used, the problem will not be too big (it should be determined according to the configuration of each brother's machine).
Attachment 2: Based on my personal experience as a brother, my exchanges with friends who play ancient times, and my observations on several ancient forums, I found that most players (including myself) tend to fall into the following types of situations when they are new players. Misunderstandings have led to all kinds of strange problems in the game: 1. When using MOD, blindly pursue the most comprehensive, regardless of the actual capabilities of the machine. The manifestation is that no matter what MOD is downloaded and installed, regardless of whether the system can withstand it and the conflict between MODs; 2. The installation of MOD is too one-sided, blindly favoring one type and ignoring the balance of the MOD, resulting in game performance being affected. For example: One of my brothers’ The Elder 4 has all the mods for armor, clothes, and weapons except those that are forced to be installed by the system. The number has reached 126! The game can be imagined. However, this misunderstanding probably only happens to a very small number of brothers. 3. Copying various tutorials on the forum (especially optimization ones), completely ignoring the author's key reminder. 4. This situation is completely two extremes from the first one. We blindly take conservative measures for the sake of stability. To sum it up as a joke, we use the performance of 2009 to play the game of 2006. This is also undesirable, and even more ridiculous than the first situation.
Appendix 3: Take my own machine configuration as an example (only performance-related accessories are listed)
CPU: AMD AM2 400
Memory: DDR2 667 1G*4
Graphics card: Gengsheng 8800GT 512M Sun Quan version (inexplicable name)
Motherboard: Foxconn NF590 (can’t remember the specific model)
Power supply: Huntkey (the specific model seems to be called Dual-core Silent King) with a rated power of 350W
Some newcomers may want to ask why the power supply is also listed? In fact, this is also where many newly installed computers are easily deceived by profiteers in stores (this issue will not be discussed here. Friends who want to know more about it can go to various large computer forums such as Pacific Ocean, etc., which have extremely detailed instructions). My configuration can generally use a power supply rated at 300W, which is not a big problem. However, due to various game materials, actions, etc., all increase the computing requirements for the GPU, so my 8800 is basically running at maximum power at all times. state. In this case, the 300W power supply is definitely not enough. The direct result is that the machine automatically restarts or burns out the power supply or even a series of major hardware problems such as the motherboard and graphics card.
Regarding the consequences of insufficient power supply, I am a layman. At this time, a friend told me. I don’t know if it is correct. I hope a hardware veteran can point it out! ! Thanks! ! ! Brother, I need to add one point: it must be the rated power, not the marked power! Be sure to see clearly! ! The power supply must be from a big brand, and never buy it cheaply from other brands or second-hand ones (unless you are a hardware super expert)! ! !
Now let’s talk about the performance and problems of Brother’s hardware configuration in ancient times. 1. CPU This CPU is a classic product in the AMD series. For now, it can handle all mainstream games on the market (unless some BT players want to play large-scale group fights to watch spectacular scenes). Specific to The Elder 4, if you do not install or install a small amount of MOD, it should be able to meet your needs. But if you have a few MODs like mine, it will be useless. 2. The current XP system can only recognize 3.5G memory. As for those who go directly to 8G, they have been fooled. Of course, if you use VT or 7 series, just think of it as fart, but it is not recommended due to compatibility issues. Those 2 systems. Moreover, there is not much difference in performance between 667 and 800. If you go directly to 1024, it will feel a bit useless. The price of 1333 is very high and the price/performance ratio is extremely low. Therefore, it is recommended that brothers wait until 1333 drops to an acceptable level before changing. 3. As for the graphics card, there is currently no game that the 8800GT cannot handle (a very small number of graphics card killers require full non-special effects). As for the 9800, it is just a new skin of the 8800. The improvement in performance is really limited. The price of the 280 series It's too outrageous. Therefore, no matter whether you use MODs or not, or how many MODs you use (of course there is a bottom line D), the 8800GT will be completely fine. 4. Motherboard This is linked to the CPU, memory, and graphics card. It is adjusted according to the above accessories and has no direct relationship with the game.
As can be seen from the above, the problem that my machine encountered in The Elder 4 is basically determined to be due to the CPU bottleneck. Therefore, if you do not upgrade the CPU, no matter how you optimize it, it will not work (unless you reduce the image quality) , materials, turning off most resource-eating MODs, etc. This result is unacceptable to me at least). After upgrading the CPU, many problems will be solved with other optimization programs.
After saying so much, it boils down to one sentence: without the cooperation of hardware, no matter how you optimize it, it will only treat the symptoms but not the root cause. When expanding game performance, you must do what you can!
The above is my humble opinion. There may be some mistakes. Please point it out to all the newbies. After all, happiness is truly happiness when everyone is happy, and solving the problem fundamentally is the way to go!
