Why do Foshan have three license plates?

Because Foshan before 2002 only involved Chancheng, Sanshui and Gaoming.

This is a problem left over from history. In the past, the fifth district of Foshan was a separate city, and later the urban area was merged into Big Foshan, so there were three different license plates. According to different places, it is divided into "Guangdong E", "Guangdong X" and "Guangdong Y". Motor vehicles in Chancheng District, Sanshui District and Gaoming District hang "Guangdong E", motor vehicles in Nanhai District hang "Guangdong Y" and motor vehicles in Shunde District hang "Guangdong X".

Although there are five districts in Foshan at present, the license plates of Nanhai and Shunde in Foshan have been preserved together, and one of them has become Guangdong E, which leads to the situation that there are three license plates in Foshan today, also known as one of the eighteen eccentrics in Foshan.
