Benxi City, located in the southeast of Liaoning Province, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Liaoning Province. Its geographical coordinates are between 123 34 ~' 125 46' and 40 49' ~ 4135' north latitude. It belongs to a humid climate zone with four distinct seasons, with a total area of 8465438.

Benxi City belonged to Qingzhou and Yingzhou respectively in Xia and Shang Dynasties. The Qin Dynasty belonged to Xiangping County, Liaodong County. During the Eastern Han Dynasty, it was renamed Xuantu County. In the Wei and Jin Dynasties and hundreds of years later, ownership changed hands several times. In the Tang Dynasty, it belonged to Liaocheng, the capital of Anton, and later to Bohai. The Yuan Dynasty belonged to Liaoyang County, Dongning Prefecture, Liaoyang Road, Liaoyang Province. There are rolling hills and few mountains in Benxi, with mountainous area accounting for 80%, cultivated land accounting for 8.7%, water surface and other land accounting for 1 1.3%, which constitutes the natural landform of "eight mountains, one water and one field". Throughout the topography of Benxi, the east is high, middle and low, with an average elevation of about 350 meters.

The main peak of Foding Mountain in Huanren Manchu Autonomous County, with an altitude of 1367.78 meters, is the highest peak in the whole country and is known as the "roof of Liaoning". The confluence of Taizi River and Xihe River is the lowest place in the whole territory, with an altitude of about 85 meters.

Benxi is a humid climate zone with four distinct seasons and abundant rainfall. The average annual rainfall is 793.7 mm, and the rainfall is mostly concentrated in July and August, accounting for 50~70% of the annual rainfall. The average temperature is 7.8℃ above zero, and the lowest temperature in winter is-32.3℃. The frost-free period is 130~ 150 days, and the freezing period is about 180 days.

There are nearly 200 rivers in Benxi, of which 100 square kilometers. These rivers belong to Taizi River, Hunjiang River and Caohe River. Taizi River is the largest river in Benxi, with a total length of 4 13km, of which 168km flows through Benxi, joins Hunhe River in Haicheng via Liaoyang boundary and flows into Bohai Sea. Hunjiang River is the largest tributary of Yalu River in China, with a total length of 447 kilometers.
