Calligrapher Bai Fushou

A journey, a memory. I first met Bai Fushou, a calligrapher, on the Z 152 train bound for Beijing on April/4th, 20265438. In the evening, I got on the sleeping car from Tianshui Station and found a berth to queue up for a rest. At this time, the night has fallen, and the noisy crowd in the trunk has found their bunk through the crowded narrow aisle and quieted down. In the aisle of the train box, some passengers sit on bunk beds and look down at their mobile phones, while others stand in the aisle with their elbows propped on the back of the chair. As the train goes on, the night outside the window is getting deeper and deeper. After a while, what caught my eye was an old man among the flowers. He helped others carry luggage, poured boiling water for his colleagues and told jokes from time to time. The old man's actions warmed colleagues around him and touched me.

After a while, my feet didn't listen to me, and I couldn't help coming to the warm-hearted man. After preliminary communication, I learned that the old man's name is Bai Fushou, who is a fellow villager and has retired as a teacher for more than six years. Invited to participate in the award ceremony of the 5th National "China Huai" Poetry Painting, Calligraphy and Printing Art Competition. Member of China Couplet Society, Zhong Xuan Shi Sheng Cultural and Art Exchange Center, China Calligraphers Association, China Calligraphers Association, executive director of China Culture and Art Research Association, and Gansu Tianshui Calligraphers Association. From the communication, I know that he has been diligent and studious since childhood. After work, I devoted myself to copying the calligraphy of famous artists such as Liu Gongquan, Yan Zhenqing, Wang Xizhi, Zhao Mengfu, Dong Qipin, Yu Youren, Yang Shoujing and Zhang Menglong, specializing in regular script and learning running script works. In Tianshui Painting and Calligraphy Art Troupe, Mo Bao is praised by everyone. Over the years, Mr. Bai has been persevering in the art of calligraphy, pursuing perfection and being meticulous, and has embarked on a road of self-discipline, self-entertainment and self-encouragement. He worked day and night, earnestly studied and practiced the art of official script, and his works participated in many provincial, municipal and national painting and calligraphy exhibitions and won many awards.

As the night got deeper and deeper, the car quieted down, and Peter's snoring sounded in my ear, but I couldn't sleep. I was moved by the spirit of this 60-year-old man, who studied calligraphy art and realized the importance of traditional laws and regulations after decades of fatigue. At the same time, I also understand that there is no sloppy success in this world, and there are many thoughtful efforts behind every seemingly easy success.

As time goes by, I have more and more WeChat contacts with Teacher Bai. Not long ago, Mr. Bai sent me more than 20 "pictures" of calligraphy works from WeChat. After careful reading, the general feeling is that Mr. Bai's calligraphy is magnificent, extraordinary in momentum, subtle in artistic conception, charming in bone and graceful in demeanor. And his life is very low-key and modest. Appreciating his calligraphy works always makes people feel the purity and kindness of his inner world. My favorite calligraphy work of Mr. Bai is written in a 260-word Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra with a six-foot banner in regular script. I have read it many times, and I have initially realized the wisdom of the scriptures. I have improved my knowledge, wisdom, patience and virtue. Cultivate their ability to correctly understand and treat all problems and some affairs, so that they have more rationality and thinking, and face everything with a calm and calm attitude. Teacher Bai's works also reveal his love for traditional culture, his feelings for beautiful rivers and mountains, and his feelings for the years of life. Mr. Bai is sincere, courteous and always gives everything to people who like his works. Especially in the past few years after retirement, he often wrote stalls and couplets for relatives and friends in rural areas, especially those who had weddings and funerals. What's more, his enthusiasm and beautiful calligraphy art were praised.
