The difference between flanging and bending in mold science

The difference between flanging and bending is that the straight bending of sheet metal is bending, while the similar bending that is not straight or closed is called flanging. The closed type, such as circumferential flanging, is called flanging when the depth is shallow (the height is less than 3 to 4 times the thickness of the material), and drawing (stretching) when the depth is slightly deep. The edge of the outer edge of the turning part is called flanging, and the edge of the turning inner hole is used to turn the hole. To be exact, in the figure, we usually don't call it bending or flanging, but bending and trimming at the same time (12 size). We usually call it tongue cutting.

You ask, "Do you need to punch, bend (flanging) or blank this part?" The skip die (continuous die) can be designed like this. You can also use a pair of compound dies to punch out the ring blank, and then use a pair of cutting tongues to die-cut and shape it. It is recommended to use a continuous die.
