Pipeline joke

In the Western Han Dynasty, there was a very studious young man named Kuang Heng, but because of his poor family and lack of money to light a lamp, his home was dark at night and he could not study. What shall we do One night, when he saw the man next door lighting candles, he quietly cut a small hole in the wall so that the candlelight passing through the hole could shine on the book. In this way, he reads under the neighbor's lamp every night until the neighbor turns off the light.

In this way, in the objective environment with poor learning conditions, Kuang Heng worked hard to overcome difficulties, create conditions and acquire knowledge, and later became a famous scholar in the Western Han Dynasty. This shows that the external environment and conditions are important factors for people to learn, but they are not decisive factors. The key to a person's success lies in his efforts.

In the Eastern Han Dynasty, there was a man named Sun Jing, a famous politician. When he was young, he was eager to learn. He often closed the door and kept reading alone. Reading from morning till night every day, often forgetting to eat and sleep. After studying for a long time, I am tired, but I still don't rest. After a long time, I was too tired to doze off. Afraid of affecting his study, he came up with a special method. In ancient times, men had long hair. He found a rope and tied it firmly to the beam. When he is tired of reading, he dozes off. When his head is lowered, the rope will hold his hair and hurt his scalp, wake up immediately and continue to study.

This is the story of Sun Jing's hanging beam.

During the Warring States Period, there was a man named Su Qin, who was also a famous politician. When I was young, because of the lack of knowledge, I went to many places to do things and was not taken seriously. After returning home, his family was also very cold and looked down on him. This is a great stimulus to him. So, he made up his mind to study hard. He often studies late into the night, is very tired, often takes a nap and wants to sleep. He also figured out a way to prepare an awl. Once he dozed off, he stabbed himself in the thigh with the awl. In this way, I suddenly felt pain, woke up by myself, and then insisted on reading. This made the story of Su Qin's "thorn".

Note: This idiom comes from the story of Sun Jing and Su Qin studying, and is used to describe the spirit of studying hard and studying hard. Their spirit of studying hard is good, but their methods of studying hard need not be imitated.

1, paradise reward

No one can succeed by talent alone. God gave talent, and diligence turned talent into genius.

Zeng Guofan is one of the most influential figures in the history of China, but his talent was not high since he was a child. One day when I was studying at home, I repeated an article many times and was still reading it aloud because he hadn't memorized it yet. At this time, a thief came to his house and lurked under his eaves, hoping to get some benefits after the scholar went to bed. But wait and wait, just don't see him sleeping, or read the article over and over again. The thief was furious and jumped out and said, "What books do you read at this level?" Then recite the article and leave! The thief is very clever, at least smarter than Mr. Zeng, but he can only be a thief, and Mr. Zeng has also become the person admired by President Mao Zedong: "the richest man in modern times." "Diligence is a good training, and one point is hard work." The thief has a good memory. He was brave enough to recite the article after listening to it several times. He can jump out of "great anger" when he sees others not sleeping. Teach Ceng Laoshi a lesson, so we have to endorse and walk away. Unfortunately, however, his name is not known, and Mr. Zeng later used a lot of talents. It is said that the thief and Mr. Zeng have known each other for a short time and can be used for one or two things. Unfortunately, his talent was not coupled with diligence, and he became ignorant.

The idiom "Heaven rewards diligence" means that God cares for diligent people, and their efforts will be rewarded. It also shows that opportunities and inspirations often only patronize prepared minds and only favor diligent people. It means no pains, no gains, and it means that more work is praised at all times and in all countries.

Origin: "Heaven" in The Analects of Confucius means "providence", and "reward" means reward and generous reward; And "diligence" means diligence and dedication, which means "God will reward those who work hard and diligently".

Step 2 come from behind

Ji 'an, a man in the era of Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty, was respected for his integrity, justice and daring to tell the truth. He is informal, pragmatic and official. Although it is not so vigorous on the surface, it can manage a county in an orderly way. Therefore, the court transferred him from Donghai County to the court as a Lord and captain-an official position in charge of the appointment and removal of local officials.

On one occasion, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty said that he would implement the Confucian policy of benevolence and righteousness and do good deeds for the people. Before the emperor had finished speaking, Ji An said, "Your Majesty is so greedy at heart, but on the surface he has to pretend to be kind. Why bother? " A word choked the emperor back. Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty cried, his face changed greatly, and he announced a blow to the DPRK. All the civil servants in the Qing Dynasty were supporting the staff for Ji An, fearing that he would cause great disaster. After Emperor Wu returned to the palace, he told people around him that Ji An was too thick and straight.

Since then, Ji An's official position has never been promoted. When he was Qi Huangong and a surname, Gong and Zhang Tang were humble officials. Later, they continued to rise, Gong became prime minister, Zhang Tang became an ancient bachelor, but He Ji 'an still stood still. One day, Ji An said to Emperor Wu that your majesty's use of ministers is like chopping wood, and it is "the latecomers come from the top"! Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty certainly realized that this was an indictment. Then he turned to his deputies and said, "People really have to study! You listen to Ji An, more and more outrageous! "

This idiom comes from Biography of Historical Records and Zheng Ji. The idiom "coming from behind" often means that the latter can surpass the former. And Ji An said the original intention, very different.

Step 3 swallow dates.

Once upon a time, there was a wise man who heard that eating pears was good for teeth and bad for spleen, but eating dates was just the opposite. He thought for a long time and finally came up with a way to kill two birds with one stone, that is, just chew pears and swallow dates, so as not to hurt his teeth and spleen. People laughed at him for swallowing dates.

4. Get twice the result with half the effort

During the Warring States Period, Mencius asked Gongsun Chou what he thought of the unification of China. He said that Zhou Wenwang's benevolent policies made the country prosperous, and finally eliminated the fatuous and cruel Shang Zhouwang. Now Qi, a vast country with 10,000 personnel carriers, can only get twice the result with half the effort if it can implement benevolent policies, live and work in peace and contentment, and outsiders come to submit.

5. Don't turn down the volume.

During the Three Kingdoms period, Monroe, the general of the State of Wu, had no cultural knowledge. Sun Quan encouraged him to study history books and the art of war. Lv Meng always said that the army had too much to learn. Sun Quan cited examples from himself and his predecessors, such as "I can't let go of Wudang's military and horses, and Meng De is also called old and eager to learn." Monroe was deeply moved. He studied hard and made rapid progress in his knowledge.

6. Better late than never

During the Warring States Period, there was a minister in the State of Chu named Zhuang Xin. One day, he said to King Xiang of Chu: "When you were in the palace, Zhou Hou was on the left and Xiahou was on the right; When you went out, Yan Lingjun and Shou Jing Jun followed you all the time. You and these four people are very particular about luxury and debauchery. Regardless of national events, Ying (Chu capital, in the north of jiangling county, Hubei Province) will be in danger! "

King Xiang was very unhappy. He scolded angrily, "Are you crazy? Deliberately saying these insidious words to confuse people? "

Zhuang Xin replied unhurriedly: "I really think things must come to this, and I dare not deliberately say that Chu has any misfortune." If you always cherish this man, Chu will surely perish. Since you don't believe me, please allow me to hide in Zhao and see what will happen. "Zhuang Xin lived in Zhao Guocai for five months, and the State of Qin invaded Chu and was forced into exile in Yangcheng (now northwest of Xixian County, Henan Province). Only then did I feel that Zhuang Xin's words were good, so I quickly sent someone to get Zhuang Xin back and asked him what he could do. Zhuang Xin said sincerely: "I've heard that it's not too late to think of hounds when I see rabbit teeth;" "It's not too late to mend. ……"

This is a very meaningful story. You only know how to have fun, not how to do things. The result must be a tragic failure. The idiom "Better late than never" is based on the above two sentences, which means that if something goes wrong, it's not too late to fix it. For example, a successful person misjudges the development of things, travels light and falls into a state of failure. But he was not discouraged. He thought things over patiently, learned a lesson from this mistake, and thought that it was not too late to "mend after it is late" from scratch!

7. Self-frustration

In the Northern Song Dynasty, there was a painter named Sun Zhiwei. He is good at figure painting. On one occasion, he was entrusted by Shouning Temple in Chengdu to draw a picture of a gentleman with nine Yao stars. He carefully hooked the picture with a pen, and the characters were lifelike, the clothes were fluttering and graceful, leaving only the last coloring process. Just then, a friend invited him for a drink. He put down his pen and looked at the painting carefully for a while, feeling very satisfied. He said to his disciples, "I have finished drawing the lines of this painting, only coloring is left." You must be careful not to color it wrong. I have something at my friend's house. I hope you can draw it when I come back. "

After Sun Zhiwei left, the disciples watched the teacher's brushwork and overall composition over and over again around the painting and exchanged ideas with each other.

Someone said, "You see how realistic the demeanor of the plumbing star is. He has a long beard and is not angry and arrogant."

Others said, "The auspicious clouds around the bodhisattva's feet are really awe-inspiring."

One of them is Tong Renyi, who likes to show off his cleverness and grandstanding. He was the only one who pretended not to say anything.

Someone asked him, "Why don't you talk? Is there anything wrong with this painting? "

Tong Renyi pretended to be profound and said, "The teenagers around the plumbing star are very vivid, but there seems to be something missing from the crystal bottle in his hand."

The disciples said, "I didn't find anything missing."

Tong Renyi said: "Every time the teacher draws a bottle, he always draws a flower in it, but this time there is no flower. Maybe we are in a hurry to go out and have no time to draw. Let's draw it first and then color it. "

With that, Tong Renyi carefully drew a gorgeous red lotus flower on the bottle mouth.

Sun Zhiwei came back from a friend's house and found a lotus flower in the bottle in the boy's hand. He said with anger and laughter, "Who did this stupid thing? If you just gild the lily, it's just self-defeating. The bottle in the boy's hand is a demon bottle used by the water heating star to subdue the water monster. If you add lotus flowers to a vase and turn it into an ordinary vase with flowers, it will be a big joke. " Said, tearing the painting to pieces. The disciples looked at Tong Renyi and bowed their heads in silence.

8. Send charcoal in the snow

During the Southern Song Dynasty, Fan Chengda, a famous poet, wrote many well-known poems all his life, which were deeply loved by people. In his later years, he retired to his hometown of Shihu, calling himself a Shihu layman. His works were compiled into "Shihu Jushi Poetry", including a poem: "Don't give charcoal in the snow, just talk about the scenery."

9. Conan Dream

At the end of Sui Dynasty and the beginning of Tang Dynasty, there was a man named Chun Yuzun who lived in Guangling. There is a big pagoda tree with deep roots and luxuriant leaves in his yard. On midsummer night, there are only a few stars on the moon, and the shadows are dancing. This is a good place to enjoy cool air.

On Chunyu Zun's birthday, all his relatives and friends came to celebrate his birthday. He was happy for a while and then had a few more drinks. In the evening, all his relatives and friends left. He sat alone under the locust tree and drank some wine to cool off the heat. He was drunk and fell asleep.

In his dream, he went to Dahuan, just in time for the Beijing exam. He signed up for school, and after three games, his poems were very fluent. He was the first in high school when he announced the list. Then, in the court exam, the emperor regarded floating in the disadvantages as a beautiful man, and his behavior was vain. He personally named him the champion and betrothed the princess to him as his wife. The scholar became a mother-in-law and a beautiful talk in Beijing for a while.

The relationship between husband and wife is very happy after marriage. Chun Yuzun was sent by the emperor to Nanhe County as a satrap, and he stayed for 20 years. During his tenure as magistrate, Chunyu often visited various counties, which made the county magistrates of the subordinate counties dare not act recklessly and was highly praised by the local people. The emperor tried several times to transfer Chun Yu Zun back to Beijing for a promotion. When the local people heard that Chun Yuzun had left, they stopped Ma's head and tried to keep him. Chun Yu Zun was moved by the love of the people and had to stay and explain the situation to the emperor at the dinner table. The emperor appreciated Chun Yuzun's achievements and rewarded him with a lot of gold, silver and jewels. One year, when enemy soldiers invaded, General Da Huan led the army to meet the enemy and was defeated by enemy soldiers several times. The news of the defeat reached the capital, and the emperor was shocked, and hurriedly called the officials of the civil and military forces to discuss countermeasures. Ministers heard that the front-line troops were repeatedly defeated, and the enemy soldiers approached the capital, which was extremely fierce. They were scared to death. You look at me, I look at you, and they are helpless.

When the emperor saw the minister, he was very angry and said, "You are pampered and enjoy all the splendor. Once something happens to North Korea, you will all become dumb gourds, timid and not say a word. What do you want? "

The Prime Minister immediately recommended Chunyu Zun to the emperor. The emperor immediately ordered Chun Yuzun to lead the national elite to a decisive battle with the enemy.

After receiving the imperial edict, Chunyu Zun did not dare to delay, and immediately went out with troops. Unfortunately, he knows nothing about the art of war. As soon as he came into contact with the enemy soldiers, he was defeated at once. His soldiers and horses were killed and fled to the western heaven, and Chun Yuzun was almost captured. The emperor was very angry, removed Chun Yuzun from his post and sent him home. Spring rain let out a cry of anger and woke up from my dream, only to see the branches on the moon and the stars shining. Then he realized that the so-called Nanhe County was just the southernmost trunk of Sophora japonica.

10, despair

Li Ling, named Shao Qing, was a famous general in the period of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty. He was trusted by Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty and appointed him as the riding captain to lead the army against the invasion of Xiongnu. Li Ling is good at riding and shooting, and he knows the art of war. At that time, it was trusted by the court.

Unexpectedly, in the battle with Xiongnu, Li Ling had no choice but to surrender to Xiongnu because he was outnumbered. Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty was very angry when he heard that Li Ling had surrendered. He thought that Li Ling had betrayed his trust in him, and the ministers in the DPRK also accused Li Ling of having no backbone.

Only a surname made Sima Qian think differently. He said: "I have never had any friendship with Li Ling, but I can see that he is loyal, filial to his parents and friendly to soldiers. He often wants to save the country's disaster at all costs. So I think Li Ling was forced to surrender this time with less than 5,000 troops against tens of thousands of enemy troops. In the end, due to heavy casualties, he ran out of ammunition and was cut off from his way home. Moreover, I also believe that he surrendered this time, not because he was greedy for life, but because he wanted to wait for a favorable opportunity to serve the country in the future. "

Sima Qian was right, but Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty thought that he was defending Li Ling, regardless of right and wrong, put him in prison and executed a "corrupt criminal".

Later, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty also killed Li Ling's family. Li Ling was very sad when she learned that, so she married and had children in Xiongnu, and she didn't return to her hometown until she died, failing to realize her wish to die for her country.

Idiom explanation: The idiom "regardless of one's own health" means to go forward regardless of one's own safety.

Origin of Idiom: This idiom comes from the biography of Sima Qian in Han Dynasty. But the servant thinks he is a strange man, filial, trustworthy with scholars, honest in financial management and upholding justice. He is humble and thrifty, always thinking about himself, in order to benefit the country's urgent needs.

1 1, lost in Sun Shan.

During the Song Dynasty in China, there was a talented scholar named Sun Shan. He is not only humorous, but also good at telling jokes, so people nearby call him a "funny wit". Once, he and the son of a fellow villager went to Beijing to take a juren exam. When the list was published, Sun Shan's name was listed at the bottom of the list, but on the list, the son of the fellow villagers who went with him was not admitted. Soon, Sun Shanxian returned home, and fellow villagers came to ask if his son had been admitted. Sun Shan embarrassed to say it directly, it is not convenient to hide. So he casually read two poems that were not poetic: "Xie Yuan is in Sun Shan and Xianlang is outside Sun Shan." Xie Yuan is the first in China's imperial examination system. The so-called "Xie Yuan" in Sun Shan's poems refers to a general who passed the exam. The overall meaning of his poem is: "The last one on the list is Sun Shan, but your son's name is still behind Sun Shan." From then on, according to this story, people called it "falling out of Sun Shan" to enter a school or take various exams, but they were not admitted.

12, awesome afterlife

Cherie Tiemu, the minister of the Yuan Dynasty, was shrewd and decisive in handling official business. One year, he worked in Zhejiang, just as the imperial examination was held in the provincial capital. He witnessed the exam, and spent a lot of money from the government to the candidates, which inevitably led to graft. He secretly made up his mind that when he came to power, he must urge the court to abolish this system. Later, he was promoted to vice premier, and he called on Yuan Shundi to abolish the imperial examination system. The imperial examination system in China has been implemented for more than 700 years since Sui and Tang Dynasties. It is a very important thing to abolish it, which has aroused great repercussions in North Korea. Bo Yan, a master, expressed his support, but he opposed a lot. An censor resolutely opposed the abolition of the imperial examination system. He asked Shun Di to cure Cherie's fungus. Unexpectedly, although Shundi was very fatuous, he was in favor of abolishing the imperial examination system. So he didn't support the proposal, but was demoted to be an official in other places. Soon, he ordered people to draft a letter to abolish the imperial examination system, ready to be promulgated. Before the book was published, Xu, a politician with a slightly lower status than Pingzhang, stood up against the abolition of the imperial examination system. He said to Bo Yan: "If the imperial examination system is abolished, talented people all over the world will resent it." Bo Yan said in a tit-for-tat manner: "If we continue to implement the imperial examination system, there will be more people in the world who take bribes and bend the law." Xu retorted: "When the imperial examination system was not implemented, weren't there many people who took bribes and perverted the law?" Bo Yan sarcastically said, "I think there are too few useful materials among those who win the election. Only you can be appointed as a politician! " Not convinced, Xu cited senior officials elected in many years to refute Bo Bo. Bo Yan certainly won't change his point of view, so the two men argued fiercely. The next day, Manchu civil servants were summoned to Chongtianmen to listen to the imperial examination system, and Xu was specially called to be a monitor. It seems that the emperor deliberately wanted this opponent to understand the imperial edict. Xu was reluctant, but he was afraid of offending the emperor and getting hurt, so he had to kneel in front of the officials and listen to the imperial edict. After hearing and reading the imperial edict, hundreds of officials returned to the government, bowed their heads and left unhappily. An imperial adviser named Pu Hua went up to him and put his ear to his ear, sarcastically saying, "If you participate in politics, you will become a person who burns down the bridge. This means that your participation in politics depends on the imperial examination. Now read out the imperial edict to abolish the imperial examination system. You kneel in front, as if you were the leader of abolishing the imperial examination system, just like pulling down the bridge after crossing it. Xu was ashamed and hated, so he stepped up and left. After that, he made an excuse to say that he was ill and never went to court again.

13, the old horse knows the way.

In 663 BC, at the request of Yan State, Qi Huangong sent troops to attack Shanrong, which invaded Yan State. The Prime Minister Guan Zhong and the doctor Peng Ji accompanied him. The Qi army went to war in spring, and it was already winter when they returned home in triumph, and everything changed. The army wandered around in a valley with high mountains and mountains, and finally lost its way and could never find its way back; Although many scouts were sent to explore the road, they still couldn't figure out where to get out of the valley. With the passage of time, the supply of troops became difficult. The situation is very critical. If we can't find a way out, the army will be trapped here. Guan Zhong thought for a long time and came up with an idea: since dogs can find their way home far from home, horses in the army, especially old horses, will also have the ability to find their way. So he said to Qi Huangong, "Your Majesty, I think the old horse has the ability to find his way. You can use it to lead the way ahead and lead the army out of the valley. " Qi Huangong agreed to give it a try. Guan Zhong immediately picked several old horses, untied the reins and let them walk freely in front of the army. Strangely, these old horses are heading in the same direction without hesitation. The army ran around with them, and finally got out of the valley and found the way back to Qi.

This idiom comes from Han Feizi. In the forest, Guan Zhong and Ji ()' s friends cut the solitary bamboo from Huan Gong and returned to winter from spring, confused and lost their way. Guan Zhong said, "You can use the wisdom of an old horse." Is to let the old horse go and get the way.

Idioms define Tao. The old horse knows the way. It means that experienced people are familiar with the situation and can play a guiding role in a certain aspect.

14, insufficient

In the Eastern Han Dynasty, Ban Chao was sent by Ming Di, led by dozens of people to the Western Regions, and repeatedly made outstanding achievements. However, after staying in the ancient Western Regions for 27 years, Ban Chao was old, frail and homesick, so he wrote a letter asking his son to take him to the Han Dynasty and asked Liu Zhao to bring him back. There is no reply to this letter. His sister, Ban Zhao, wrote to the emperor again, stating his brother's meaning.

There are some words in the letter: "Ban Chao is the oldest person to accompany him to the Western Regions. Now he is over 60 years old. He is weak and ill. His hair is gray, his hands are failing, his ears are not working and his eyes are not bright. He can only walk on crutches ... If there is an unexpected riot, Ban Chao's strength can't obey his inner wishes. In this way, it will damage the long-term stability of the country and destroy the loyal subjects.

Liu Zhao was deeply moved and immediately sent someone to transfer Ban Chao back to Han. Less than a month after Ban Chao returned to Luoyang, he died at the age of 7 1 year because of the aggravation of chest diseases.

Origin of Idiom: If there is sudden violence in the biography of Ban Chao in the later Han Dynasty, it cannot come from the heart.

Interpretation of idioms: Metaphor power is not enough to realize one's wishes.

15, learn from each other's strengths

During the Warring States Period, Teng Wengong met Mencius on his way from Chu to Song. Mencius told others that human nature is good, encouraged him to govern the world by Yao and Shun, and asked him to learn from each other's strengths, give full play to his regional advantages, and govern the world by benevolent government. Tengguo can become a powerful country. Teng Wengong listened to Mencius, without hesitation, just smiled.
