Hexian ape-man site is a national key cultural relic protection unit.

Hexian ape-man site is located in the north slope of Zhenjiang Jiashan, Taodian, Hexian County, Anhui Province.

Hexian ape-man site is a CAMBRIAN limestone cave accumulation. 1 June, 980 and 1 June, 98 1 June, the site was excavated twice, and 1 human fossil skull,1mandible,1parietal bone and1forehead were obtained. These fossil materials represent at least three individuals, among which the skull belongs to a young man, and most of the skulls have been preserved except the skull base. Morphologically, it has many typical characteristics of Homo erectus, such as low skull vault, obviously backward frontal bone, thick skull bone wall, small brain volume (about 1025 ml), low maximum skull width, developed brow ridge and occipital ridge, and obvious angle transition between occipital plane and nape plane. The skulls of Hexian people are similar to those of Beijingers in general morphological characteristics, but there are some more progressive features. At present, it is considered to be equivalent to the late Beijinger.

A large number of vertebrate fossils were also found on the same floor where primitive human fossils were found in Hexian County. After preliminary identification, there are about 50 species, including turtles, turtles, alligators and other reptiles. Birds have pheasants; Mammals include voles, mice, monkeys, wolves, jackals, foxes, pig badgers, otters, China dogs, saber-toothed tigers, Chinese cats, leopards, giant pandas, brown bears, oriental saber-toothed elephants, horses, China jackals, rhinoceroses with nose horns, leeward wild boars, sika deer, bony deer and gecko.
