How do planes fly at night? Is there a route?

It’s all nonsense downstairs.

As a quasi-pilot, let me introduce it.

Flight is divided into two types: visual flight and instrument flight.

Visual flying requires the ability to clearly identify the horizon and confirm the aircraft attitude

While instrument flying does not require visual confirmation of the aircraft attitude.

The civil airliners we fly all fly according to instrument flight rules (instrument flight is required for flights above 6000m)

As for the aircraft’s route, as you said, it is indeed There are road signs.

When the aircraft is flying, there are three navigation methods:

1. Ground navigation station, such as VOR (very high frequency omnidirectional beacon), NDB (non-directional beacon), DME (Distance Meter) etc. The aircraft will fly in the connection between these navigation stations, and the connection between each navigation station is the route. These beacons are like invisible beacons, guiding the aircraft's flight.

The picture below is an aeronautical chart. Due to safety requirements of aviation facilities, aeronautical charts and especially data are confidential. So I can only upload such a rough picture, please forgive me.

2. Rely on precision GPS

The accuracy of GPS, Glonass, GNSS and other systems on the aircraft can reach within ten meters. But although the aircraft no longer needs the support of the ground navigation station, the aircraft will still fly according to the connection from the ground navigation station to ensure safety.

3. Rely on the inertial navigation system IRS

The aircraft will be equipped with extremely precise accelerometers, which will monitor the aircraft’s acceleration in each axis in real time, and use computers to infer the aircraft’s acceleration. Location. But by the same token, even if the aircraft no longer needs the support of the ground navigation station, the aircraft will still fly according to the connection from the ground navigation station to ensure safety.

Well, this is the route the plane flies. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, we are always willing to help you answer!
