Influence of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom War on Jintan Dialect

During the Xianfeng period, the Qing army and the Taiping Army fought fiercely in Wujin, Jintan and Liyang, and the local population dropped sharply. In the tenth year of Xianfeng (1860), the Taiping army attacked Jintan City for the second time and fought bloody battles with the Qing army 1 10 days. Due to this great change, Jintan County has a bilingual phenomenon in which Jintan dialect and Subei dialect coexist.

After immigrants moved to Jintan, they often lived in huts because of poverty. With the increase of population, it has gradually become a village, that is, a village named after XX shed. According to the list of Jintan County, there are 167 villages named after "shed" and "shed", and their distribution is generally bounded by Caohe River, with 5 1 in the east and15 in the west, which clearly shows that immigrants are more concentrated in the west of the county, which is fully confirmed today.
