Regular script is also called regular script, true script, and regular script. It gradually evolved from the official script and became more simplified. The shape of the characters changed from flat to square. The strokes of the Han official script were omitted from the simplified strokes, which were horizontal and vertical. "Cihai" explains that it "has a square shape, straight strokes, and can be used as a model. Therefore, it is called regular script. It began in the late Han Dynasty and has been popular to this day. It has been in great use for a long time. The emergence of regular script closely followed the rules and regulations of the Han Dynasty and pursued form. With the further development of beauty, in the late Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period, Han writing gradually changed from waves and chops to abbreviation and nip, and there were "side?" (point), "sweep" (long abduction), "pecking" (short abduction), Gestures such as "lifting" (straight hook) make the structure more rigorous. Such as "Wuwei Medical Slips", "Juyan Han Slips", etc. The characteristic of regular script is that it is neat and orderly, so it is called regular script and has been used to this day.

Regular script is the most popular calligraphy style in my country’s feudal society. Before the emergence of regular script, my country's calligraphy had produced three calligraphy styles: large seal script, small seal script and official script. Dazhuan is relative to Xiaozhuan. Generally, all ancient characters before Xiaozhuan are collectively called Dazhuan, including oracle bone inscriptions, bronze inscriptions and the characters of the Six Kingdoms except Qin during the Warring States Period. Xiaozhuan was the script that became popular after the Qin unified China. It was based on the characters of the Qin State, with reference to the characters of other vassal states, and was simplified and standardized for the convenience of writing. This was the first standardized calligraphy style in the history of Chinese calligraphy. Official script is another representative calligraphy style that emerged after Xiaozhuan. It was produced on the basis of Xiaozhuan. The emergence of official script is a great revolution in Chinese characters. Its significance is not only that Chinese characters have become symbolic, but more importantly, it has changed the writing style and aesthetic trend of Chinese characters, thus laying the foundation for the emergence of regular script calligraphy art, and thus for China The development and prosperity of calligraphy art has opened up a vast world.

Characteristics of regular script

1. Complete stippling. There are eight types of stippling in regular script: horizontal, vertical, left, back, lift, fold, and hook. Generally speaking, when writing, you should make more breaks at the beginning of horizontal strokes, vertical strokes, and strokes, and at the end of horizontal strokes; gradually lift the stroke at the end of strokes; and gradually lay out the strokes and strokes when finishing strokes. Then gradually the strokes come out; the turning point of the strokes is often a pause, and hook strokes are a special kind of turning point. After stopping, the strokes come out. This is also a unique pointillism expression of regular script. That is, compared with official script, regular script The province changed the wave and added a hook. Historically, there have been many discussions on dot painting in regular script. Regular script strokes are neat and orderly. There are "eight methods" for the specific writing methods and requirements of the eight basic stipples in regular script. For example, Ouyang Xun in the early Tang Dynasty had "Eight Jue", which summarized the eight basic forms of pointillism in regular script. Later, Zhang Huai of the Tang Dynasty said in the "Yutang Forbidden Scripture" that "Dafan's brushwork and eight types of stipples were prepared in the "Yong" character book, and there were pictures showing the eight kinds of stipples of the "Yong" character. The requirements for dot painting in regular script are strict, and each stroke has its own norms and standards, which cannot be changed arbitrarily. If you reach the last stroke next to the vertical knife of the character "", you must make a hook, but you must not write "hanging needle". Another example is that the last stroke of the character "死" is a vertical bend, so it must not be written as a vertical horizontal or vertical bend. It is also required to be meticulous in every stroke, and the rise, fall, turn, fold, and closing of each stroke must be well documented. The previous seal script and official script, as "normal script", all had problems with dot painting, but the form of dot painting was not as complete as that of regular script, and the requirements for dot painting in regular script were not as strict.

2. The knots are neat and tidy. It is generally believed that Chinese characters are "square characters". Among the seal script, official script, Kai script, Xing script and Cao script, it should be said that the regular script has the most square font. In regular script, although there are very few square characters in the strict sense, square characters are all used as the basic font.

Among various fonts, the structure of regular script is different from the horizontal, vertical and even white distribution of seal script and official script, and it is also different from the free scattered white distribution of running cursive script. Regular script requires the characters to be straight, well-proportioned, flying, and uneven, with the characters in a square shape.

First, it is necessary to take the momentum according to the characters, establish the shapes according to the characters, and coordinate the proportions. From the structural analysis of Chinese characters, there are roughly independent structures, left and right structures, upper and lower structures, surrounding structures and comprehensive structures. In specific words, they should be dealt with specifically according to the specific situation to make them coordinated. Generally speaking, the characters in the left-right structure are wider, the characters in the upper-bottom structure are longer, the characters in the surrounding structure are square, the characters in the separate structure are tighter and slightly smaller, and the characters in the comprehensive structure are slightly larger.

Second, it is horizontally inclined and vertically curved, and the whole word is straight. When most people read regular script, they always think it is "horizontally flat and vertical", but when we actually write regular script, the horizontal strokes are uneven and the vertical strokes are not straight. The horizontal strokes tend to tilt upward to the right, and the vertical strokes are also slightly curved. It is precisely for this reason that the knot character "平正" in regular script refers to the straightness of the entire character, rather than the straightness of specific strokes. The straightness of the entire character requires a stable center of gravity, balanced coordination, and corresponding left and right parts.

The third one is to think of nothing as black, and contain movement in silence. The knots in regular script are basically symmetrical and coordinated. When tying words, it is very important to think of white as black. The division of space in pointillism must be symmetrical, and the thickness, length, and density should not be too different, but at the same time, the vivid beauty in symmetry must be pursued. Sun Guoting's "Shupu" says: "When you are new to distribution, you should strive for fairness and justice; now that you know fairness and justice, you must pursue danger and danger; once you are able to avoid danger and danger, return to peace and justice." ?That is to say, excellent regular script handwriting has a structure that is surprising in the ordinary, contains movement in the quiet, and is fair but not rigid.
