What activities can we do during Women’s Day?

March 8 is International Women’s Day, also known as March 8th Day, Women’s Day, and March 8th International Women’s Day. It is a festival for working women around the world to fight for peace, democracy and women's liberation.

On March 8, 1857, female garment and textile workers in New York, USA, held a protest against inhumane working conditions, 12-hour workdays and low wages. The marchers were mobbed and dispersed by the police, and two years later, in March, the women organized their first union.

On March 8, 1908, 15,000 women marched in New York City, demanding shorter working hours, higher wages, the right to vote, and a ban on child labor. The slogan they proposed is "Bread and Roses", with bread symbolizing economic security and roses symbolizing a better quality of life. In May, the Socialist Party of America decided to celebrate the last Sunday in February as Women's Day in the country.

Our country began to commemorate March 8th Day in 1922. In 1924, the first mass mass commemoration meeting of March 8th was held in Guangzhou. In December 1949, the Government Affairs Council of the Central People's Government designated March 8 as Women's Day.
