Brief Introduction of New China Basketball Outstanding Contribution Award

1999, with the approval of the State Sports General Administration, the Chinese Basketball Association held the "50 Excellent Basketball Players in New China" selection activity on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of New China. The full name of these 50 outstanding new China basketball players is the New China Basketball Outstanding Contribution Award, which was changed from 1949 to 1999. The purpose of the selection activity is to praise the athletes and coaches who have made outstanding contributions to the basketball cause in various periods of the development of New China, so as to inspire the national basketball workers' confidence in fighting for the basketball cause. The selection method shall be provided by the provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) Sports Commission, the competent basketball department of the People's Liberation Army and the Basketball Association, and shall be voted on this basis. On May 8th, the Chinese Basketball Association awarded the New China Basketball Outstanding Contribution Award to 50 athletes including Zhang Weiping, Gong, Kuang Lubin, Mu, Zheng, Hu Weidong, Gong and Jiang Xingquan with the scores of 1949 to 1999. However, on September 6th, 2008, bad news came from China basketball circle. Mu, known as the "longest man" in China's basketball field, was once the famous "No.1 center in Asia" and one of the 50 outstanding basketball players in New China, and died at the age of 59 in 309 Hospital of China People's Liberation Army. In recent years, with the popularity and promotion of basketball in China, more and more people like basketball. Especially after Yao Ming entered the NBA, he further promoted the sport in China. China's professional leagues are also actively integrating with the world. Some CBA and NBA players also have the criteria of being selected into the top 50 players, such as Yao Ming and Yi Jianlian. Chinese basketball association is also advancing with the times, preparing to launch the China Basketball Hall of Fame in recognition of all kinds of people who have made outstanding contributions to basketball in China.
