Luding Bridge

Luding Bridge is located in the west of Luding County, Sichuan Province.

Luding Bridge was built in the forty-fourth year of Kangxi (1705). It is a cable-stayed bridge across the Dadu River, with a clear span of 100 m and a width of 2.8 m.. The bridge deck is higher than the water surface 14 meter. There are 13 iron cables in the whole bridge, each of which weighs 2.5 tons, of which 9 iron cables are tied to the shore in parallel, on which wooden boards are laid as the deck for people to walk, and the other 4 iron cables are hung on the left and right sides of the bridge, two on each side as handrails. The three-character tablet of "Luding Bridge" inscribed by Emperor Kangxi is still hanging at the bridgehead, and the "Royal Luding Bridge Monument" stands in the east of the bridge.

On May 29th, 1935, the First Corps of the Central Red Army of the Chinese Workers and Peasants Red Army made a long March here, but two enemy battalions were blocked on the other side, and at the same time a large number of enemy troops were chasing after them. The headquarters decided that a commando team composed of 22 soldiers would cross the river by force. Commandos braved the enemy's bullets, climbed the chain and crawled forward, "flying" to seize the Luding Bridge, wiped out the enemy's defense at the bridge, and made the whole army successfully cross the Dadu River, got rid of the enemy's encirclement and interception, and wrote a heroic chapter in the revolutionary history of China.
