China began to cooperate with the United Nations Volunteers in 1981.

In order to support the operation of the United Nations system, the United Nations Volunteer Organization (UNV) was established in China in 1981, and under the management of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), it is active in various voluntary activities. Up to now, more than 25 China and international UN volunteers have served UN projects in China, and nearly 2 China volunteers, as international UN volunteers, have made their own contributions to projects involving poverty alleviation, microeconomics, environmental protection, cultural heritage protection, AIDS prevention and control, migration and NGO development in more than 35 countries.
