The history of Ankang Station
In April 1968, the construction of the Xiangyu Railway started. On April 11, 1973, the civil engineering and track laying of Ankang Station were completed. The initial station building was a brick and wood structure, divided into passenger waiting rooms, ticket offices, luggage rooms and administrative offices, with an area of ??839 square meters. Ankang Station was a third-class passenger transport station at that time. In January 1969, the construction of Yang'an Railway (Yangpingguan to Ankang), China's first electrified railway with a total length of 357 kilometers, started. In March 1978, the Ankang Railway Branch of Zhengzhou Railway Bureau was established. In February 1982, Ankang Station was upgraded to a second-class passenger station directly managed by the Ankang Railway Branch. It was also designated by the Ministry of Railways as one of the 36 passenger transportation hubs on the entire railway. In 1988, Ankang Station began to reconstruct the station building, and it was completed and put into use on October 27, 1991. The passenger waiting room area of ??the station has been increased to 2,600 square meters, which can accommodate up to more than 4,000 passengers. On December 18, 1996, the construction of the Xikang Railway (Xi'an to Ankang) with a total length of 267.49 kilometers and a total investment of 10.25 billion yuan started. On January 8, 2001, the Xikang Railway, known as the "golden channel" between north and south Shaanxi, was officially opened for operation, making Ankang Station an important transportation hub across the four provinces and cities of Hubei, Shaanxi, Sichuan, and Chongqing, and the road network hub of Ankang Station This further strengthened the position. In July 2004, Ankang Station was upgraded to a first-class Class A passenger station directly managed by Zhengzhou Railway Bureau. In 2005, the annual passenger volume of Ankang Station exceeded 2.66 million, and the through passenger flow exceeded 5 million. During the Spring Festival travel period that year, Ankang Station ranked second among all passenger train stations in Shaanxi Province in terms of cumulative passenger traffic. On March 18, 2005, the railway transportation management system was reformed. Ankang Railway Bureau and Xi'an Railway Bureau merged to form Xi'an Railway Bureau; Ankang Station was placed under the direct management of Xi'an Railway Bureau.
In the course of forty years, Ankang Station has successively won the Locomotive Trophy of the Ministry of Railways, the Civilized and Standardized Service Demonstration Station of Zhengzhou Railway Bureau, the Advanced Unit of Excellence Evaluation in Shaanxi Province, and the Advanced Road Style Construction of Xi'an Railway Bureau Collective and many other honors.
