Le 'an Lantern Festival is a unique traditional folk custom in Luocun, Nanhai. It has a history of more than 300 years and is well known. There is a folk saying that "lights are lit on the ninth day of the first month".
On the ninth day of the first month of every year, Le 'anwei Street is covered with colorful lanterns. This year, it attracted 6.5438+0.5 million tourists to visit.
Looking for the history of lanterns
I asked several old people, but I couldn't fully explain the origin of the lanterns in Le 'an, my hometown. Finally found the complete answer in the Lantern Festival.
Le 'an Lantern Festival existed in the late Ming Dynasty and has a history of more than 300 years. According to legend, there was a young man named Mai Miao Qing who had been married to his wife for eight years and had no children. During the Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty (1875), on the ninth day of the first month of Yihai, the lanterns on the ground of Le 'an Lantern were like a sea of people. Mai Miaoqing helped his wife visit the hometown of lanterns and bought a "Guanyin Lotus Lantern". The wife was pregnant, gave birth to a son in the second year, and won the scholar. After the news spread, people rushed to follow suit and formed a lively Lantern Festival.
Explore the "original stone"
It is said that the stone on which Mai Miaoqing's wife sat pregnant was called the "birthstone", and people rushed to sit on it.
I'm curious about this. How powerful is the stone? I came to the ancestral hall of Jiang family and sat on the legendary "Son Stone". According to the old people in the village, the original "birthstone" in the market was brown, but it was lost during the Cultural Revolution, so people found a blue-brown stone as the birthstone and put a "walking stone" next to it as a foil.
Visit the lantern making master
I learned from my mother that Master Jiang from Shangfang Village has been selling lanterns for many years, so I went to visit him.
Master Jiang opened a small shop in Le 'an Market. Every Spring Festival, his family will make lanterns and sell them in shops. When I got to his shop, he was sitting under a lantern, wrapped in paper flowers. According to Master Jiang, three generations in their family made lanterns, and the father passed them on to his son. He also said that there were many lantern makers in Fangshang village in the past, and the archway at the entrance of the village was "looking at the golden lantern resort above". At present, there are only five or six people making lanterns in the village, and most of them are made in other places. Master Jiang lights lanterns every year 10, and about 20 days before the Spring Festival, the whole family begins to open bamboo, tie frames, tie flowers and assemble them ... He also said that compared with previous lotus lanterns, their shapes and crafts are much more exquisite, and they are more beautiful to decorate with many modern decorations.
Lantern implication
Lotus lanterns have the will to pray for children. Its main body is the lotus, which has the beautiful meaning of "children inherit their father's business" and "Guanyin sends their children". There is a white flower on the top of the lantern, which symbolizes a man and means to give birth to a big fat man. There are two flowers under the lotus. One is white and the other is red. White stands for "child" and red stands for "woman". Together, it is a good word. There are usually two champions in the lantern, which symbolizes the birth of a son and the ability to be the champion in high school. In addition to lotus lanterns, there are carp lanterns that mean "more than a year", lanterns that mean "dragon and horse spirit" and orange lanterns that mean "good luck". Nowadays, people buy lanterns not only to pray for their children, but also to have rich connotations and various good wishes.
The road of inheritance
Although the Lantern Festival is getting more and more prosperous, many people lament that there are fewer and fewer kinds of lanterns and fewer and fewer people make lanterns. Guo Bo said that there were many styles of lanterns in the past, such as carp lanterns, orange lanterns and triangular lanterns, but now they are basically unified into lotus lanterns. At this year's Le 'an Lantern Festival, there are no local lantern manufacturers and sellers in Luocun, and some folk lantern craftsmen admit that this folk activity is facing the crisis of extinction.
This year, Luocun held the first Lantern Creation Competition. In the past, because of the single style of lanterns, there were more tourists and fewer buyers during the Lantern Festival. At the same time, because the production is mostly for elderly artists, their skills are also in a dilemma, and a lantern creation competition was held. This is the first time since last year that the government intends to inherit and develop lanterns.
At present, Le 'an Lantern Festival has applied for national intangible cultural heritage. At the same time, the Lantern Street will be built, and the Lantern Creation Society will be established to explore the integration with folk arts and industries such as ceramics, curtains and lamps, so as to promote the innovation of lantern styles and enhance its cultural and commercial value.
On the ninth day of the first month, lanterns are in full bloom.
On the ninth day of the first month of this year, the annual Le 'an Lantern Festival kicked off in Lianxing Village, Luocun Street, Nanhai. Early in the morning, I came to Lean Market. At the venue of the first Lantern Creation Competition, a giant "Lantern King" with a diameter of 99cm and a height of 2m and composed of 16 petals was particularly eye-catching. This is the largest traditional lotus lantern in more than 300 years. I stood in the lantern market, already crowded, covered with all kinds of lanterns, and the tourists' faces were filled with festive atmosphere. They appreciate and love exquisite lanterns, happily carry one home, and hopefully pray for the good wishes of the New Year.
Building a Cultural Brand and Building a Harmonious Luocun Village
According to Luocun News, Luocun will build the Le 'an Lantern Festival into a cultural brand of Luocun, giving Luocun a unique urban cultural identity in the process of urbanization.
Lantern packaging extends "Xiaoluo Village". With the change of society, the connotation of le' an lamp will also change. The harmonious element of praying for the family included in the Lantern Festival is very consistent with the modern filial piety education carried out in our street. This year, Luocun started the construction of "filial piety village" in the street, broadcast the story of "filial piety", and built a harmonious new village town with "filial piety" as the starting point. The repackaging of Le 'an Lantern is not only an extension of "Filial Piety and Laoluo Village", but also a measure to polish the brand of traditional culture and build a harmonious society in our street.
At the same time, with the growth of Le 'an Lantern Festival, Luocun will further develop the pillar industry of lighting, strive to turn Luocun into a professional lighting town, and promote the urbanization process of Luocun.
insight
During this inspection and practice, I deeply felt the profoundness of my hometown culture, and I felt a sense of pride. At the same time, I am deeply aware that many young people don't know much about the connotation and significance of the Lantern Festival. Therefore, I should shoulder the heavy responsibility of promoting Luocun culture and contribute to the connotation of Luocun folk culture and the construction of harmonious urbanization.
