Storage method of wax gourd

Wax gourd is a relatively storable agricultural product, which often adopts traditional storage methods, such as cellar storage, warehouse storage and underground storage.

Wax gourd likes temperature and heat resistance, is sensitive to low temperature and is not resistant to low temperature storage. Cold damage will occur below 10℃, and the suitable storage temperature is 10- 15℃, and the relatively moderate temperature is 70%-75%, which requires good ventilation.

Wax gourd has high water content, so tender melon and overripe melon are not suitable for storage. The stored wax gourd with black skin should be nine ripe, with thick skin and thick meat, dense texture, good quality, bright green surface and full of wax.

The storage temperature is too high, the respiratory rate is accelerated, the tissue becomes soft rapidly, the pathogenic bacteria multiply rapidly, and the storage period is not long.

Preparation of wax gourd before storage

7- 10 days before picking, irrigation should be stopped in the growing area. It should be picked in the morning when the temperature is low and the melon is cold. In order to prevent injury and avoid the invasion of germs, cut off vines with scissors and leave pedicels of about 3 cm. It is forbidden to harvest in rainy days, and it is rainproof before storage. Because the water content of melons is too high after rain, it is not suitable to pick them after rain.

When handling, loading and unloading, we must adhere to the principles of light handling, light loading, light transportation and light unloading, and do not roll or collide, otherwise it will easily cause damage to the slurry, which is not conducive to storage.
