How many groups did I split before the Mystery of the Dead City?

Before the Mystery of the Dead City, I was splitting the individual groups: Cache is a map that many people like very much. In the early days, it was a strong map in North America. Later, it became one after another in the domestic Counter-Strike: Global Offensive competition. Cache, the Chinese people affectionately call it the Guotu forklift. As it happens, there is actually a forklift in area A of the map. However, the pronunciation of Cache is not similar to "forklift", but similar to "generous pool", and the English name of forklift is Forklift.

Disregarding this interesting coincidence, many people know that Cache is the only map in the active map group that was not officially produced by Valve, but was born in the community creative workshop. But Cache's origins are not that grassroots. This has to do with its original author, Volcano, the world champion 3D player in the 1.6 era.

In October 2011, Valve gave Counter-Strike, which was still under development: Global Offensive built momentum and held an exhibition match between North America and Europe's ten top players (lurppis, GeT_RiGhT, cArn, zonic, trace; n0thing, volcano, ksharp, Storm, fRoD). Volcano was one of the North American players. At this time, the distance CSGO is still nearly a year away from its official release. I believe many old players have watched this exhibition game and felt the shock that the new version of CS has brought to us. Many of these ten players are still active in the e-sports circle. For example, lurppis is active on the commentary desk and is also a shareholder of Ence. GTR and n0thing also play for NiP and C9, the most popular teams in Europe and North America, and zonic is the coach of Astralis. And fRoD is the coach of the FaZe OW team. Volcano was active in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive circle as a map maker, developing many high-level maps such as Cache. He was also one of Valve's main development consultants when developing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Old version of Cache

In May 2011, Volcano released the first version of Cache on his personal website. Zhang Zhang map of Counter-Strike: Origin, and half a year after the launch of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Volcano released its version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in December 2012. The appearance of these two versions of the maps is similar to that of 1.6. The overall style is old, dark and not very bright. In May 2013, FMPONE, a well-known map maker in the community, with the assistance of Volcano, comprehensively beautified the map screen and created the Cache that everyone is playing now. This map became the competition map for the first time in the 2014 Cologne Major and continues to this day.

When FMPONE remade Cache, they made reference to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, a scene that has been very popular in the gaming industry in recent years. Since 1986, the Chernobyl nuclear accident has turned the small town of Pripyat around the power plant into ruins and a forbidden area for human life. Pripyat is the living area for Chernobyl power plant employees and their families. Before the accident, nearly 50,000 people lived here. Since the nuclear power industry is one of the industries with the highest personal benefits in the local area, the standard of living in the city is very good, with schools, hospitals and playgrounds readily available. The scene of the small town was fixed on the day it was evacuated. From then on, the only thing that could leave a mark on her face was time. The town of Pripyat remains as it was during the former Soviet Union, like a submerged Atlantis. Based on this historical event, Cache’s Chinese name was also designated as the mystery of the dead city, and this dead city couldn’t be more appropriate to describe Chernobyl.

As for the No. 4 unit that exploded, the radioactive material exploded and melted, reacted with all nearby materials, and could even melt concrete. The former Soviet Union had to build a concrete shell. Called the "sarcophagus", it covers the entire Unit 4. Unit 4 and the sarcophagus were also restored in the Cache and appeared behind the T birth position.

So after understanding this background, will you have new feelings when you see the Ferris wheel and abandoned nuclear power units on the map? Perhaps among the many Ukrainian CS professional players, some of their relatives have been harmed by radiation. I wonder if they have special thoughts when fighting on Cache?

Map Overview

De_cache (de_cache) is an official tournament map set at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. Due to the relatively empty map and strong balance, Mystery of the Dead City has always been one of the popular maps in professional games. The prototype of T comes from the Phoenix Warrior, while the prototype of CT comes from the French GIGN anti-terrorist force.
